    1. German newspapers
    2. I was at the Clements Library a couple years ago and saw some of the German newspapers from Manchester. There was a kind soul at the door and he let us in. I live in California. Does anyone have access to these microfilms? I am looking for information on the Mammel family and have exhaused every other place. The mother (my great great grandmother) disappeared sometime after 1890. I would like to know where she, her youngest son and her husband are buried. Thank you Marti Hause in Calif

    3. Hi Marti, I was just wondering what Mammel family you were searching for, as I did a quick census search and came up with information on Mammel families in Michigan 1880 Census in Huron County. 1. Ann Arbor Land Title Abstracts
    2. Jan E. Tripp
    3. Dear Washtenaw County Researchers, The Genealogical Society of Washtenaw County recently received a small box of abstracts of title for properties in the City of Ann Arbor. The abstracts were compiled by the Washtenaw Abstract Company and others from 1922-1972. The bulk of the files appear to be abstracts of properties owned by the Inter-Cooperative Council at the University of Michigan. The Society has no room for these files in their library and they would like to dispose of them. If anyone is interested in the files, they may have them for pre-paid postage. Please contact me off-list if you are interested. I have briefly summarized the files below. The abstracts contain summaries of deeds, mortgages, wills, and tax payments documenting the history of a piece of property back to original land owner in the 1820's. The original records abstracted are at the Washtenaw County Courthouse. Often deaths, wills, divorces and other bits of information are found in the abstracts. If you are lucky enough to own one of the properties, you have a very complete genealogy of your house. One abstract I found in the box was for a house where I rented a room when I was a student at UM. Interesting place -- no smoking, no kitchen, no parking, and no women allowed on the premises. Lots of rules but for $10/wk it was a bargain. My land lady said her parents owned the house, she had there her entire life and never married. All this and more was confirmed in the abstract file. Who knows what you will find? Mr. Jan E.
