I have had some success researching my family that was in Washtenaw County starting in 1838. Specifically, I found them on the boat coming over the pond from England. The extended family consisted of William and Elisabeth Barker, their children and grandchildren - who married into families including Wort, Cushman, Ross, Wortley, Case, Shufelt, Stadel, and possibly Northrup. The Kings - Benjamin and wife Ann, with more children and grandchildren, married into McClain, Seymour, Mysel, and Judson. Most, if not all, of those surnames are in Washtenaw. There may have been more family on the boat - at least three of the children were married before leaving England. Some of the possible connections from the ship's manifest include surnames Abbey or Aby, Cheffins, Clark, Cread, Fox, Hudson, Lee, Lusenby, Overhend, Watson, Williams, Overton, Puckering, and Whittaker. The families migrated outward to Ingham, Ionia, Saginaw and Van Buren counties from what I have found so far. I am still piecing them together and would love to hear from possible connections.
