Hello All: One Henry Benton shows up in the will of Eli Benton of Lodi (1889) but in this context: "... bequeath the same to all my grandchildren and Henry Benton to be divided equally between them." This infers Henry was a kinsman of Eli, but not a grandchild. Henry's photograph also shows up in the album (c 1775) of Emily Benton Hill, Eli's daughter wife m. Comstock Fitch Hill of Lodi and AA. Henry Benton of Lodi also appears on the lists of Co H, 20th MI Vol Inf in the Civil War. That company was headed by Wendell D. Wiltsie, who had married another of Eli Benton's daughters. Since this Henry is listed as 18 years of age, he would have been born c. 1844, which approximately matches the photograph in EBH's album mentioned above. I rather suspect that Henry was a fostered or adopted child of Eli Benton, perhaps (tho' unlikely) the youngest of Eli's bro. Melanchton Benton of Otisco (nr. Battle Creek). Any knowledge out there?
