    3. Bushy, The records I have from Rev. Friedrich Schmid (Lutheran minister) of Ann Arbor (originals are at the Bentley Historical Library in Ann Arbor) list the following information that might help (or might confuse the issue further!) Christian Schuhmacher, born 14 Oct 1844 in Ann Arbor, son of Fried. Schuhmacher and A. Maria was baptized by Rev. Schmid on 17 Nov 1844. Unfortunately the portion of the page that lists godparents has a large spot of what looks like ink. Godfather was Joh. Braun but the name of the godmother is not entirely visible (could be his wife). Friedrich Schuhmacher, age 37 yr, 8 mo, 16 days, died in Ann Arbor on 31 January 1849 and was buried on 2 January 1850. (the death date is listed as January but recorded with the deaths from end of 1849...? an error since burial was Jan 2). Catherina, daughter of Friedrich Schuhmacher and ____ Catherina Eberhardt (first name was written over but looks like it could be Anna). Born in Ann Arbor on 31 October 1837, baptized 5 Nov 1837. Godparents Johannes Braun (single) and Anna Maria Eberhardt (single). Johannes Schuhmacher, born 11 Sept 1839 in Ann Arbor, son of Friedrich Schuhmacher and Catherina Eberhardt (this entry is very faded). Baptism appears to be October but I can't read the day. Godmother was ---Eberhardt but entry is too faded to read name of godfather (looking at the original might be better than the copy I have). Elisabeth, child of Friedrich Schuhmacher and A. Cath. Eberhardt, born in Ann Arbor on 14 Oct 1840, baptized 1 Nov 1840. Godparents Johannes Braun and wife. Interestingly, the entry right after baptism for Elisabeth is for Friedrich Braun, son of Johannes Braun and his wife whose maiden name was Eberhardt (it doesn't list her first name). Friedrich was also baptized on 1 Nov. 1840, godparents Friedrich Ziegler and wife. J. Jacob Friedrich, son of Friedrich Schuhmacher (no listing for mother) born in Ann Arbor 22 Aug 1842, baptism 11 Sept 1842. Godparents Johannes Braun and wife. Barbara, child of Friedrich Schuhmacher (no listing for mother), born in Ann Arbor 5 Dec 1846, baptism 25 Dec 1846. Godparents Johannes Braun and wife. Hanna, child of Friedrich & M. Schuhmacher, no birth date listed, born in Ann Arbor, baptism 26 Nov 1848. Godparents Johannes Braun and wife. Ester Othilda, child of ? (just an initial ) & M. Schuhmacher, age 2 mo, 3 days, died 13 August 1855 in Ann Arbor, burial 14 August 1855. Her baptism record lists her as child of Christ. and Maria Schumacher, born in Ann Arbor on 27 May 1855, baptized on 24 June 1855. Godparents Fr. Ziegler and Grandmother Schuhmacher. Flora Cath., child of Chr. and M. Schuhmacher, born in Ann Arbor 18 Aug 1860, baptism 30 Sept 1860. Godparents Friedrich Ziegler and Widow Schuhmacher. Marriage records list Christian Schuhmacher married Anna Maria Schuhmacher (this is listed as though it is her maiden name), age 25 and 21 respectively, both single, on 4 June 1854 by Rev Schmid. Johannes Braun (born 11 April 1816, son of Michael Braun & Christina Altbrecht) married Anna Maria Eberhardt born 11 March 1812 (no parents listed) married 30 April 1839 by Rev. Schmid. Christ. Gerlach married Magdl. Schuhmacher19 Oct 1850. Ages 29 and 24 respectively. (no parent info given). Joseph _____ (looks like it could be "Lit") married Fridr. Schuhmacher, ages 33 and 25, 16 Feb 1856 Joh. G. Schuhmacher married Friderica Gross on 1 Apr 1856. Ages 28, 21. Joh. Georg Heimerdinger married Chris. Schuhmacher on 1 Apr 1856. Ages 26 and 22. Jacob Allmendinger married Anna Maria Schuhmacher on 7 June 1857. Ages 25, 19. Mich. Seger married Anna Maria Schuhmacher on 26 Apr 1859. Ages 30, 19. Jacob Schuhmacher married A. Maria Schle---er on 16 Nov 1865, Ages 24, 22. No specific locations are indicated for any of these marriages and Rev. Schmid served many area Lutheran congregations, particularly in the early years before many of the area congregations established a minister to serve their own church. There are other baptism records for 1850's to 1870's but I don't have them all so there could be other Schuhmacher baptisms after the mid-1850's; prior to that I have a copy of all his records (1830's-1850's) and just scattered ones after that. I do have a copy of complete marriage and death records from his records. Unfortunately the later records do not have as much information as the early years! Hope this helps. This line has been very confusing to say the least so this inch thick pension file which was chock full of information verified some of the information that wonderful volunteers helped me locate. I have documented up to Christian Schumacher who I will refer to for ease in keeping them seperated as Jr but no where on any documents was he referred to as such. I have Christian's death certificate but he was born too early for a birth certificate. I am trying to find out positively who his parents were. I feel it might be the Christian Sr. who was married to Ann M. or Maria Ann but I have not found anything that I can document it with other than the death certificate and that only confused matters. If there is anyone out there who loves a great mystery I would love to hear from you including those who were so wonderfully helpful before. I am sending this to both counties since the family lived in both during their lifetimes. If you connect or are interested in our web page concerning this family the url is near the end of the email. Thanks so much for any and all help you can provide. If you have any suggestions on other documents I could send for please let me know. Have a wonderful day Bushy Hartman ********************* Item #1 >From the pension file the following items were mentioned about the birth of Christian Schumacher: "My father was born was raised on Liberty and First streets" [This provided by his daughter in a later letter but no mention of his parents names or his actual birth date. From the city directories Christian b. 1828 was living on Liberty and Second Streets.] ********************* Item #2 "brother in law by marriage" was on two documents signed by Christian Schumacher and John Schumacher on affidavits for Jennett to receive the pension once Christian her husband had died. [How can a bro-in-law be named the same as the husband? Could this be her father-in-law who was still living when his son died?] ********************* Item #3 Death certificate has his parents as Christian Schumacher and Catherine Schumacher both born in Germany. I did not find any other Schumacher/Shoemakers in the same area and Catherine was married to Frederick and mother of the Senior Christian who was married to Ann M. or Maria Ann from death cards. Is it possible the person who provided the information could of mistaken his father and grandmother names as his parents? ********************** Item #4 Census- I could not find in the census where Christian [Jr.] is living with his family. ********************** Item #5 Mary Henderson who uncovered that Jennette Taylor married Peter B. Walling and had three children Eudora, Ford and Eugene. Peter abandoned Jennette which mentions this in the pension file and he took her children with him to live in Wayne Co., MI before 1870 census with his parents. The pension file contains a documents showing that: "Peter B. Walling was admitted to the Insane Asylum on 10 Oct 1881 and died 17 Oct 1882." Jennette claims there was a divorce but could not remember where her ex-husband was living at the time and could not provide the divorce documents. The pension file contains: Jennette Taylor married Christian Schumacher[Jr.] on 11 Jan 1866 in Smithfield Center, Washtenaw Co., MI. I have not sent for this document yet is the location the correct county? ********************* http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mcguirecuz/ McGuire Cousins which also contains the Schumacher line along with several others in separate ancestry files.
