    2. Denise Frederick
    3. Greetings, I wanted to let everyone know that after representing Washtenaw County, MI in the USGenWeb Project for over 6 years, I've stepped down as the County Coordinator for the Washtenaw Co., MI USGenWeb site. I have so enjoyed the time I spent designing and building the Washtenaw site into one of the best in the state of Michigan and want to thank everyone who so generously submitted any kind of data to me, gave me words of encouragement over the years, or kept me on my toes by making suggestions. It has been an absolutely wonderful experience and one that I will always cherish. Colleen Pustola ladyaudris@earthlink.net is the new County Coordinator and the new website address is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~miwashte/ Any data you might have submitted over the years will still be included on the new site, but give Colleen some time to make a complete transfer of the webpages. Thanks again for all your support. With warm regards, Denise Frederick ***************************************************** Petoskey, Emmet Co., MI Email address: tfred@voyager.net Researching these surnames: BECKWITH, BUGBEE, CHASE, CLINE, CRANE, GAUMER, HEIFNER, HENRY, HUNT, LANE, MARSCH, MUSHRUSH, NEEB, QUIGLEY, RAYDURE, ROSS, STANTON, STONE, SHURGOUR, STARKWEATHER, THOMPSON, VAN RIPER, WENNER, WERTZ and WHITING Visit my homepage and read "Denise's Story": http://members.tripod.com/~deemamafred/index.html *****************************************************

They are on a published index, but when I sent for their marriage license, Washtenaw Co did not have it. (Maybe they lost a record book?) Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan E. 1. Re: [MIWASHTE] SCOTNEY
    2. Carol, The Scotney Brothers owned land in sections 32 & 33 in Superior Township as of 1895, (plat book). They purchased additional land in section 33 as of 1915 and I am told they ran an extensive dairy operation. The land had a one room school on it, Superior Township district 6, and William Scotney was the district director in 1887 & 1888, probably serving a one year term. The death records for Superior Township, 1911-1952 show (1) Charles E. Scotney, died at the age of 70, DOB 25 February 1861, DOD 20 Nov 1931; (2) Marian Goodley Scotney, female age 82, DOB 25 Nov 1825, DOD 1 April 1912, maiden name Goodley; (3) William H. Scotney, died at age 82, DOB 6 August 1855, DOD 2 January 1938. The above people are probably buried at Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti, their land being just north of the City of Ypsilanti. More information can be learned from the Register of Deeds for Washtenaw County in Ann Arbor (don't ask them to search the records, they don't have the manpower). Deeds will give you purchase and sell dates, principals, and sometimes some interesting "tidbits". Also, since William died in Washtenaw County there may be a probate file, often informative. The Genealogical Society of Washtenaw County has an index of probate files and someone there would probably be willing to check the index to see if a file exists. Reading the file becomes more complicated since the Probate Court has to get the file from their archives which takes a day. If you wish I will see what we have re additional death information. I have done no research on the Scotneys and would appreciate you giving me a brief summary of what you find out about the family after you have put it together since they appear to have been fairly long term residents of our township. There are still people here who remember them. The land they owned is currently an abandoned farm and some of the structures, the silos I think, still stand, but it is planned for development soon, so if you wish to see it as it was, sort of, best plan to make a trip to Ypsilanti this summer. Regards, Karl Williams

    3. Debbie, Check out this site, I haven't personally used it yet. You supposedly can look up death records from 1960 to the present Al Wakenhut The Washtenaw County, Michigan Web site provides a variety of online services. Its property assessment database allows researchers to look up assessed value or last sale price of just about any street address, check out the history of sales over recent years, and even view a legal description of the property. Researchers can also order vital records online: Birth Certificates - 1867 to present Death Records - 1867 to present Marriage Records - 1833 to present The charge for the first copy of a vital record is $13. Each additional copy is $4. If age 65 or older ordering a copy of your own birth certificate, the cost is $5 for the first copy and $4 for each additional copy of the same record. There is a $2 convenience fee for each record ordered. In addition, more recent deaths and marriage records may be searched directly online: Death Records - 1960 to present Marriage Records - 1965 to present These databases are being expanded backwards, so check back at a later date for additional years. Washtenaw County includes Ann Arbor and the towns of Chelsea, Dexter, Manchester, Milan, Saline and Ypsilanti. You can access the Vital Records Section directly at http://www.ewashtenawco.com/servlet/VitalRec/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joel & Debbie Holth" <holths@centurytel.net> To: <MIWASHTE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2003 9:28 AM Subject: [MIWASHTE] Obits in Washtenaw County > Hello listers, > > You are all wonderful and have such knowledge.
