    3. I have been searching the archives of the Rootsweb lists and see that DALE WILLETTS STEDMAN advertises his products on all the the Rootsweb lists that he subscribes to. This is his signature on one of his messages on the Lapeer list: Shop at the willett.org store: www.cafepress.com/michiganhistory Stedman.Willett.Bovee.Lindsey.Fleming.Harman.Patton.Tereau.Hesch" I found examples of his advertising his site on the Shiawassee list, Lapeer list and the Washtenaw list using the archives. This is the hipocrite that complained about Rich Boyd sending a message to the lists advertising old school pictures. Mr. Willetts...you ought not to critizise..... 2. Judith, The Andrew Smith I am trying to get information on was born in Honeoye Falls, NY on 3 Aug 1832, he died in Ann Arbor on 13 Sep 1917. He married Paulina Fish in NY, before comming to AA. He lived all his life on Stien road, 1/2 mile west of the Whitmore Lake Road. His father was David Smith, born in 1785 in NY. Andrew purchased over 100 acres in the area, never really worked the farm, was a black smith and general "fix it" man for neighbor farmers. I would like to find out more about him. thanks for the interest. John Proctor in KS

I was corresponding with Nancy Krohn by e-mail and she thought that the GSWC library would be interested in receiving a copy of my Family History on the Podewils Family. They immigrated from Pommern in 1858. I would like to mail this from Michigan since postage is very expensive in Canada. I may be visiting Port Huron, Mich. in the near future and could mail a copy from the Mall Post Office. I have included documentation from all sources including inscriptions from family books dating back to 1766, Ship's List, 1858, Ann Arbor and Northfield Twp. Directories, Census records, Political Enrollments, etc. as well as documentation from LDS records available on line. I also show relationships with four other families who resided in Ann Arbor and Northfield Townships. I included background material on the political situation in Pommern from the reign of Frederick the Great to the mid 19th century and tried to integrate this with my own family history. I certainly hope that I can visit your new center in the future. Sincerely, Doris Podewils Anderson dorisanderson@sympatico.ca

    1. Wedding certificate/newspaper notice etc:
    2. Greetings, I enjoy the washtenaw Co. web site. My grandparents lived on Stien Road for over 60 years in a home built by my grandmothers father, Andrew Smith in the mid 1800s. I would like to get what ever documentation I can for the death of andrew Smith, died on 13 Sep 1917. His wife was Paulina Jane (Smith) Latson. He purchased the land on Stien Road on Oct 9, 1835. This land was the first high land north of the Huron River on what is now the Whitmore Lake road. Adjacent to Barton Hills CC on the west, and cornering on Barton Hills on the south. The Washtenog Memorial Park is on land he owned and subquently sold to the memorial park, my grand parents, father and mother and several family members are buired there. I would like to get an obit. for Andrew Smith, and Paulina Jane Smith who died on 17 Sep 1911. I also would appreceate a wedding anouncement, and any information published in the news paper for this marriage of Kate Amy Smith and Edward William Latson, who were married on Jan 1, 1900 at the Stien Road residence. Any help appreceated. John Proctor now living in KS, formerly of Saline. thank you

    2. I do not know if this is the same HICKS family, but this is all that I have in Washtenaw County, Michigan. Eliphalet Lewis married Elsey Hicks, 24 February 1839 Washtenaw Co., MI. She was 39 years old when she married; he was 48. This was his third marriage or fourth if Mary Lewis, wife of Eliphalet Lewis, buried in the Frank Woods Farm Cemetery is his first wife. Elsey Hicks was born 22 October 1800 and died 01 April 1840. She is also listed as having died 10 April 1838 at the age of 39 years [which must be inaccurate]. Before she was married she was of of Ogden, Lenawee Co. MI. Vital Records, An Arbor Washtenaw County, MI #21 1839 Mar 4 I hereby certify that the bans of matrimony were solemnized by me the 24th day of Feb, 1839 between Eliphalet Lewis of Salem, Washtenau County and state of Michigan, aged 46 years. And Elsey Hicks of Odgen, Lenawee County and state of Michigan aged 39 years. In presence of Henry T. Walker, John Bennett and others of Salem. I do know that there were two racial groups with the LEWIS surname. The family I am researching has many members in each generation. They spread out to the counties surrounding Washtenaw. Eliphalet Lewis is one of the more unusual given names in several generations and may be traceable back to New Jersey in the 1600s. I haven't been able to make that connection because the records in Wayne County, NY in the early 1800s are almost non-existent. We spent many weeks there looking for them. I do know that this LEWIS family in Salem, Washtenaw Co., MI was associated by marriage with the following surnames in the 1800s PALMER, STANBRO, BENNET, PLACE, VANDUSER,RATHBUN,HAM, SMITH, TERWILLIGER, SANDERSON, LUND, HASFORD, HERRICK, McKINNEY, BROWN, TAPP. These are all the surnames that I have found so far, but there are many individuals to check out. Thank you for writing. Vicki

Before moving to Michigan, they were in Wayne Co., NY. On the border of the towns of Wayne, Wayne Co., NY and Tyrone, Wayne Co., NY is an old cemetery in which the next older generation of LEWIS family members is buried. The center of Tyrone and Wayne towns is only a couple of miles apart. There is still not much there. The historian in Steuben County, New York might have some information.
