    3. Many Mitchells came to Ulster from Scotland. There's a good chronology on the Scottish Heritage Museum web site by Matthew Newsome on how the Ulster Scots migrated from Scotland and then to Charleston and Philadelphia seaports. The Mitchell name is also documented in Robert Bell's "Book of Ulster Surnames," which states that Mitchells are found in almost every county of Ireland. The name is among the 30 most common names in Scotland and is also very common in England according to Bell.
