Connie: If she has time, in addition to poking around Rockingham County itself, she should go to the Virginia State Library in Richmond and the Virginia Historical Society on Boulevard. They have the best collection of ancient Va. records, especially Will and estate records and other records dating back into the early 18th Century. Go to the genealogical library section of the VSL and ask for help. They are most accommodating. You will have to join the VSL to get into some of the material, but it is worth the minor cost. The microfilm collection of ancient wills is mind-boggling. I spent a week there a few years ago and collected all my ancestral wills to about 1724. Tell her to bring lots of change for the copiers and microfiche machines. -David B. Mitchell
