J.D.Bailey. Hello Judith, I found his death date and place. I found this perusing some excerpts from old newspapers in West Tennessee. Dyer County is just West (and where I was born) of Gibson County. Dr. Pleasant Mitchell was my wife's fifth generation anscestor, she grew up in Trenton in Gibson County. Most of my Crocker anscestors were from Gibson County also. He was a Physician, had a large family, was a state Representative in the Tennessee House in about 1840. On the rootsweb TN Gibson County page there is a picture of Dr. Mitchell as well as a picture of their home somewhere. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngibson/photos/DrPHMitchell.htm 'quote here' THE SOUTHERN STATESMAN VOLUME 1 NUMBER 6 MARCH 12,1831 JACKSON,TENNESSEE DIED--In Brownsville on Saturday night last,Mr.Pleasant C.FROST,aged about 21 years, formerly of White County. --In Lincoln County,on the evening of the 23rd of February,at his residence,Joseph GREER,Esq.,in the 75th year of his age. --In Dyer County,Mark MITCHELL,aged about 65 years-for many years a citizen of Rutherford County, from which he emigrated about 12 months since. 'end of quote' also another quote ' THE SOUTHERN STATESMAN VOLUME 1 NUMBER 11 (NO.10 MISSING) APRIL 16,1831 JACKSON,TENNESSEE MARRIED--On the 10th inst.,Mr.Benjamin WEST of Kentucky,to Miss Elizabeth R.COZART,of this county. --On Tuesday evening last,by Rev.Joseph BALLOW, Mr.John BROOKS to Miss Adeline WILSON,all of Lexington,Henderson County. --In Dyersburg,on the 24th ult.,Mr.T.P.WALKER to Miss Mary MITCHELL,daughter of the late Mark MITCHELL,Esq.,formerly of Rutherford County 'end of quote' Rutherford County Tennessee is just south of Nashville, county seat is Murfreesboro TN. So it appears that Mark Mitchell and other family members migrated about 150 miles west in 1830. I have found some references to Mark Mitchell in the Rutherford County court records yesterday. I have not found census records or deeds there yet. We may have a match! More later.
