Colleen, Thank you for the reply, I don't recognize the name Edmond Mitchell, however I'm not back to 1838, trying to get there. I haven't searched in Decatur County, I'll give that census a try and will let you know if I come up with anything. I've been looking in the 1860 census, James would have been 10 years old then.
