Hi Marti, Thanks! I would also say, that if any of you descend from the branch I'm making reference to, I mean no offense whatsoever - Family genealogy is full of interesting stories and feel free to correct anything you don't agree with - I just happen to have files and files of data - I've been a family researcher since 1979 and while I have not been successful in finding the parents of my Hinchey Mitchell born 1775 VA, I did ofcourse find others of whom I thought he might connect to - Especially those in SC pre-ARW and in GA - As my Hinchey died in Clayton Co GA 1863 - Family tradition abounds in my Mitchell ancestry, so I followed and still follow every lead. Your right Marti, the story of Elizabeth Dooley Mitchell is extremely fascinating. Mr. Robert Scott Davis (author) wrote me several letters about her and her deceased husband, Thomas Mitchell - There were very curious writings in the "Wilkes County Papers" - (GA) - about her. The land Thomas Mitchell (soldier) owned was bounded by the said Thomas Bibb of whom married Elizabeth secondly. - 1/3 part of 400 acres on Long Branch, Lincoln County, belonging to Thomas BIBB. - Lincoln Co GA Deed Book I, pp. 19-20 and there are other entries. Also for FYI - and others on the list - This Thomas Mitchell's land is the same land of which Margaret Mitchell Marsh's father claimed belonged to "their" Thomas Mitchell who was to have died in Wilkes Co GA - I've read all the papers from the GA Archives concerning Muse Mitchell's family tradition - he being Margaret Mitchell Marsh's (GWTW) father - Her brother Stephen's also hired researchers, but I don't believe anything conclusion was proved that a Thomas Mitchell was their ancestor - I believe it to have been a WILLLIAM Mitchell rather than Thomas - Just my opinion:) Elizabeth it is said, was daughter of Patrick Dooley and Ann of the 96th Dist of SC and who died 1767. - Elizabeth had brothers, one named George - they were also prolific in the ARW in GA - Elizabeth & Thomas Mitchell owned land in Wilkes and Bibb was a witness to the sale - it was said that Elizabeth was known to help slaves and this might have been the reason for her lands being taken and the will burned. Thomas BIBB however was from another celebrated family who connected to some powerful families in GA - Including the Terry's and McDaniels of which I also am related - The Bibbs are also a very interesting family - sporting Governors and plenty of movers and shakers - As I said earlier, after I return from a short trip, I'll post what I have on those mentioned earlier - But for the record, I have in the 1790 Edgefiled Co Census index - for Mitchell - Flood (soldier, said to have been a spy for America during the ARW and of whom I tracked to AL) - Rachael - Amos (2) Soldier - Elizabeth - Abraham - HINCHEY - John (2) - Benjamin - William - Sion - STARLING - John B.- I show a Millegeville (old capital of GA) newpaper as reporting Edward Mitchell and his widow, Elizabeth Mitchell lived in Wilkerson Co GA - she died 1819 and Edward died there in 1811 - Some notes I have for STARLING (and pls verify) appeared in the 1790, 1810 Edgefield Co SC Census and the 1797 Tax Digest - page 029 - there those named Starling and Sterling Mitchell in GA records - Much data on Hinchey Mitchell of VA - SC and AL can be seen in the records (245 Vol set) "Alabama Records" by Pauline jones Gandrud - Hinchey Mitchell of Tuscaloosa - there is a good deal on him - Will - Death record and court documents and records - seems there was a dispute of his will - estate - Vol. V168 AL Records (Cobb Central Library, GA) Lake Lorraine, Tuscaloosa Co, AL - Al Historical Quarterly, WInter Issue, Page 662, HINCHEY MITCHELL, departed this life, August 118, 1820 in 48th year. - Volume 25 - Book M, page 239, 15 April 1824 - HINCHEY MITCHELL deceased. Received by JABEZ MITCHELL from RACHEL MITCHELL, Executrix of Estate. Receipt also of ZADOC MITCHELL, DAVID SMITH and Wife, LUCRETIA and SAMUEL HOLLOWAY - to my wife, Phil P. Wright and E.T. Mitchell. Thanks for writing! MaryJean
