    1. Re: [MITCHELL] James and Hardeman Tenn
    2. Tom, Thank you for the reply, I'm only searching in Indiana at the present. I have no idea right now if my ancestors move up from the south or moved across from New York. The only solid information I have on my great grandfather's birth place and his parents, they were all born in Indiana, from the Michigan census, 1880 thru 1920. Since there isn't an index on the Indiana 1860 & 1870 census, I've been looking through each census for a James Mitchell born March 1850 as a son, and his parents born in Indiana and/or a son James age 10 on the 1860 and age 20 on the 1870 census. I thought if you had been through the census for Lawrence County Indiana, I may have been able to mark that county off. I'm just plugging along... I am writing from memory but I believe he went to around Ft Smith. Either he or his son later became the editor of a Little Rock newspaper. He married a woman from somewhere around Nashville Tenn. He was the son of a James from Monroe Co Indiana and there are still Mitchells living there from his line. I found the Robert Mitchell and wife in Hardeman Co Tenn both were born in County Down Ireland. They had children born in NY and NC before Tenn. >>
