I was wondering if anyone would have anything on a James D. Mitchell, b: abt 1817 in TN (probably, Grainger County)? He married Narcissa Mynatt in Grainger County, Sept. 21, 1836. Green B. Mitchell performed the marriage ceremony, and John Mitchell was bondsman. James D. was only found on one census: the 1850 Grainger County Census, where he and his family were living in the 14th. District, and he was a brick mason by trade. His wife, Narcissa, was found in Calhoun, McMinn County, TN on the 1860 census, living next door to her father, Silas Mynatt. James D. was not with his family in McMinn County on this census, or later ones. His sons included Silas, James Asbury, and John Calvin Mitchell (my gg grandfather). John Calvin had sons named James Dillon, John R. Calvin, and Greenberry (who later had his name changed after friends made jokes about that unusual name). Some of these same names are found among Grainger County Mitchells, so they must have been carried down. There were other Mitchells named James in Grainger County, from other lines that have probably been identified. I just wish I could tie my James D. into his family. Alton Underwood
Of all the places why did so many Mitchells have to end up in Grainger County, TN and with the same names!!!! I am connected to the "other" James (b. 1784 Virginia or NC) and 2 Greenberry Mitchells (Sr. born 1786 and Jr. born 1830) Conni Mitchell Braun ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alton Underwood" <alu6@acelink.net> To: <MITCHELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 03, 2003 10:32 AM Subject: [MITCHELL] Grainger County TN Mitchells > I was wondering if anyone would have anything on a James D.
