    2. I do not believe it was a tax list as it list some children that are only a few years old. One must remember the latest date on that list was 1829. Before the treaty of Dancing Rabbit - 1830, much of the land in TN and MS was Indian Land. After 1830, the Indians were given a short time to leave and move West. After that time, people were allowed into lands that they had not been allowed to claim before. Many rushed in - as they later did in what was called West Indian Terrritory (now OK) when that was also taken from the Indians. Between the years of 1829 and 1850 is a long time for a lot of people not only to enter, but also have children - and most families had a lot of children then. It is unreal how Houston, TX has changed in the last 20 years. We look at the history of any area to understand why and how it changes. Some areas change slowly and some quickly.
