Marlene - Ref- THOMAS MITCHELL of early VA - There were many branches in Colonial VA by the name of "Thomas" Mitchell - One line in particuliar were from the BRANCH lineage - several or more MITCHELL's married into this family. The BRANCH family were very well known, many of their descendants having settled in GA - (Wilkes Co GA) and other early counties in GA - I too am seeking a Thomas Mitchell who was to have lived in Wilkes Co GA - Family tradition says my ancestor, Hinchey Mitchell (b1775-1863) was his son. Even tho the name THOMAS has come down thru this line one after another, I have no proof that my ancestor Hinchey Mitchell was a son of a Thomas Mitchell - Also of interest would be the tradition that a William Mitchell born about the same time as my Hinchey Mitchell (both lived in early GA) was the son of a Thomas Mitchell of GA and who was an ARW soldier and who died in GA - These latter two were the ancestors of Margaret M. Mitchell (Marsh) - Author of GWTW - Even tho there are charts which say that her ancestor was a Thomas Mitchell who died in a certain part of GA (Henry Co GA) - I have never found proof - and I have researched this and my lineage since 1979. What I have found were three adult Thomas Mitchell's and none so far is the Mitchell ancestor of Margaret Mitchell (GWTW) - Thank you for your message and good luck! MaryJean Childress Voegtlin
