    1. Re: [MITCHELL] The burning of the Will
    2. Reference - Elizabeth Dooley Mitchell - and the "burned will" - Hi Doris - Hi All - Let me say firstly, I don't descend from Elizabeth Dooley Mitchell, at least I don't believe so:) - Her story was fascinating to read - and I say "read" because it was reported in the records from that area of GA - "Wilkes County Papers" for one - Robert Scott Davis, the noted historian and author of many GA books, is the one who first told me about it - I had written to ask him about Thomas Mitchell - the one who by tradition was the ancestor of Margaret Mitchell Marsh (GWTW) - I have letters and notations from "printed" sources - and their from historical records of early GA - Wilkes and Lincoln Counties in GA before and after the ARW - I will search for all the references to what happened to Elizabeth and post it all here - that way, all of you can read about it, if you haven't already - The WILL of Thomas Mitchell, her husband, who owned land in Wilkes CO GA and whose estate was obviously left to his widow - Elizabeth..would suggest, she was in some type of trouble. When I do gather all of it, I'll post it here - The reference to "Mr. BIBB" - I don't know what her relationship was with him prior to Mr. Mitchell - but she was young enough to have more children, for she had them with Mr. Bibb in KY - after they left GA - Thomas Mitchell died in 1789 so said the printed sources (GA) - From what I could gather, Mr. Bibb was not involved in what happened to Elizabeth - He was land rich himself - it was what SHE was involved with which caused her to be taken advantage of - obviously by those in Wilkes Co who took her land bit by bit - AFTER Thomas Mitchell had died - This story was reported in more than a few reference books on GA history of those counties, I've seen them, the references - What I recall was feeling very sorry for Elizabeth - Being a woman right after her husband died with young children - and obviously, she was from the very famous Dooley family of early GA - So, seems they could have helped her, but I saw nothing about them in that regard - Actually, my interest to begin with was just WHO the Thomas Mitchell was in that place and how many were there - Family tradition in my family said that we descend from a Thomas Mitchell born about 1755 - father to my Hinchey Mitchell - I'll post the material as soon as I can find all of it! Thanks for writing - Comments are welcome! MaryJean
