John and Frances were both from N.C. All of their children are accounted for: three sons Major, James and John as well as six daughters. I have most of the sons' descendants too, I think. Am still working to prove ancestors. There was another John Mitchell in the same area in Sumner Co. who died in 1826. I think his sons James and John went to Alabama. Thanks Sandi Mitchell >> Aenita and Sandi-- My John Mitchell was born in AR, but his father, Elijah/Elisha was born in TN, county unknown. He married Mary Jane Dickerson, also of TN. Elijah's brother, James, married Nancy ? in TN, and both families removed to Franklin Co., AR. James was a blacksmith. The names John, Elijah, James, Mary, Nancy, and William, were used as children's names in both families. Are any of them familiar to you? Would surely love to find the parents' names and the county which they were from. Thanks. Barbra
I believe Conni Braun has a line of Mitchells in Grainger co., TN. Doris Mitchell

My Mitchell family settled in Grainger County, TN around Blaine. Unfortunately Juda isn't a name I recognize. But then I don't have information on all the various branches. I'll keep your email address and if I run across the name I'll contact you. Conni Mitchell Braun
Does anyone have anything on Juda Mitchell, age 70, who was listed on Grainger County, TN's 1840 Federal Census? She was from VA, probably a widow, and had several age groups living in her household at the time of the Census. According to the 1850 Mortality Schedule, she died July, 1850 at age 80, in Grainger County, of Palsy. Alton Underwood
There were a number of Mitchell families living in Sumner Co. TN. in the early 1800's and I have not been able to connect any of them. My John Mitchell who married Frances "Fanny" Busby in Sumner Co. in 1808 lived on the mid-fork of Station Camp Creek. There was another John there also but I don't think they were related. I think my John may have been from Granville Co. N.C., son of Major Mitchell and Molley Wiggins. are there any on the list from scotland to nc
Are there any new subscribers to this list that are researching any Mitchell's (1900's and earlier) from Scotland? I am a first born American of my generation originally from Chicago, IL. There seems to be so many Scottish Mitchell's on this list that have been in America for many generations. Is there anyone out there like me? Liz in Minnesota
