    1. [MITCHELL] Starling and Hinchey Mitchell, Edgefield SC, early 1800s
    2. To Mitchell researchers: Two daughters of Samuel and Martha-Jefferson Bell Walker married MITCHELL men in Edgefield SC in the early 1800s. Rachel Walker married HINCHEY MITCHELL (as per Edgefield Equity 136 and deeds of the time), and Martha Walker married STARLING MITCHELL. These two MITCHELL men are found witnessing deeds for EDWARD MITCHELL, who lived near the Walkers, but the connections haven't been established as far as I know. Starling Mitchell, wife, and six children are found on the 1820 Census of Population for Edgefield. Later a younger Starling Mitchell was named as a nephew in Samuel Walker jr's will in Madison Co, Alabama. Would very much like to correspond with others working on these MITCHELLS. A group of Walker researchers has been working on the family, but we have very little information about the MITCHELLS. I have put the information we have on Martha and Starling Mitchell below. Our complete descendant table for Samuel and Martha-Jefferson Bell Walker, their children and grandchildren is at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/r/u/s/Judith-F-Russell/index.html Corrections, additions, comments are very welcome! Judy Russell Bogart, GA ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1. Martha WALKER 1 was born2 before 1774. Edgefield Equity Case 136 names a daughter and husband of Samuel Walker as "Martha and Starling Mitchell." The will of Samuel Walker, Jr. (proved 25 January 1841, Madison County AL) names " beloved nephew, Starling W. MItchell." Two of Samuel, Jr's sisters married Mitchells: Rachel married Hinchey Mitchell and her children are listed in this file. Martha married Starling Mitchell. I tentatively put the nephew mentioned in Samuel's will as the son of Martha and Starling Mitchell. Starling married7 May J. FORSIL-FARRELLL 6 on 18 Oct 1838. 3 M ii. 1. [MITCHELL] Harold Mitchell Tennessee
    2. The following was in today's "Somebody's Links" newsletter. I am posting with permission in case this Mitchell belongs to you! Conni Mitchell Braun "I found a photo that my father left at my grandmother's shortly after discharge from the Korean War. It is a 3x5, black and white photo of a young man in Army dress. On the back, my father wrote: Harold MITCHELL, Camp Chaffee, Ark., March 30, 1952. My father enlisted from Trezevant, Tennessee and returned to the Carroll / Weakley County areas of Tennessee at discharge. My uncle thinks this man was from he same area. I would gladly mail it to a family member. 3. Can't remember if I answered this query or not, but the dna tests do not tell who the common ancestor was, just if there was one based on the number of "markers" on the dna tested which match with another person. We do have a purported descendant of Nimrod who matched with several other people although they have not been able to find a common ancestor on paper. The more people who are tested, the better we should be able to identify family groups. >From: MACPOOL@aol.com >Reply-To: MITCHELL-L@rootsweb.com >To: MITCHELL-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [MITCHELL] Henry Mitchell dna results >Date: Wed, 21 Aug 2002 23:55:23 EDT > ><PRE>I am a direct descendant of Nimrod MItchell. 2. Yes, you answered the Nimrod Mitchell question and I thank you for the additional comments now. My line no longer carries the Mitchell name so we can't contribute to the DNA testing, unfortunately, but I am still very interested. Thanks, again. Doreen Pool

    3. Ernest, You seem to have the same dilemma that I have. Interesting note, my Grandfather also moved to Oklahoma, I think they initially arrived in and around Durant, OK, possibly near or in Silo, OK. My Grandfather was sometimes called just "J.S. Mitchell" and also sometimes called "Pearl Mitchell" (for what reason I have no clue). My Grandfather's siblings were George, Mertle, Eunie, & Inie, I believe George was a half-brother. George remained in Texas and is buried, I think, in vicinity of Paris or Bonham, TX. The rest of the siblings and my Grandfather are buried in various parts of Oklahoma, mainly in Oklahoma & Pontotoc Counties. Good luck in your search! 1. [MITCHELL] Ulster Research Trip and Genealogical Materials
    2. For approximately three weeks in May and June John Giacoletti and I made a research trip to Northern Ireland to gather information on some of the Defenders of Derry. I said I would post our findings to the various lists that had been contacted prior to our departure. To view all of our posts please go to the rootsweb.com main page and find the link to "threaded archives" Type in COWAN and search June and July 2002 and you will find some really interesting posts describing our research adventures. If you have any comments or questions please feel free to contact me at cscunc@aol.com. Prior to the trip I offered four obscure, out-of-print publications that should be included in every Ulster Presbyterian's genealogical library. They all have either expired copyright provisions or, in the case of the Hagy thesis, I have the author's permission to reproduce the document. The publications are: "The Laggan and its Presbyterianism" and "In the Days of the Laggan Presbytery," 1905,1908, by the Rev. Alexander Lecky, B.A. member of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, Belfast 211 pages We met JB Shannon, age 90, who assisted in the 1975 reprint and he said these books are still the BEST source for Ulster Presbyterian research. Books contain lists of former generations of Lagganeers, and their places of abode, which have never before appeared in print. "Fighters of Derry, Their Deeds and Descendants, being a Chronicle of Events in Ireland during the Revolutionary period 1688-1691," by William R. Young, 1932, Eyre and Spottiswoode, London, 350 pages. One of the most difficult sources to locate, in fact almost impossible. Contains biographical sketches (1200+) of the Defenders of Derry "A History of the Siege of Londonderry and Defence of Enniskillen in 1688 and 1689, with Historical Poetry and Biographical Notes," by the Rev. John Graham, M.A. Rector of Magilligan in the Diocese of Derry. Includes the Battles of the Boyne, Athlone, and Aughrim and the siege and capitulation of Limmerick by Lord Macaulay, Toronto, 1869 311 pages. Full of genealogical information about the families who were at Derry. "Castle's Woods: Frontier Virginia Settlement, 1769-1799, a thesis presented to the Faculty of the Department of History, East Tennessee State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts, by James Hagy, 1966, 150 pages. The most popular of the documents offered, this covers the families who settled in Russell county, Virginia when it was considered the frontier. And a new addition: "The Tinkling Spring, Headwater of Freedom" A Study of the Church and Her People, Howard McKnight Wilson, Fisherville, 1954 This book contains more genealogy of the early settlers of Augusta/Rockbridge Counties Virginia than any other. Baptismal records of the Rev. Craig and detailed analysis of many of the early families from the 1740's on. Please contact me privately at cscunc@aol.com for details on how to acquire these materials. It is very slow and cumbersome to contact each list individually so in the future I will be putting these and other items I deem valuable on abebooks.com Once again, I will be happy to answer any questions that have to do with the migration of Scots-Irish people from Ulster to Pa, Virginia and Tennessee. But remember, I probably don't know who your mamma is, I had a hard enough time figuring out who mine was. Regards, Robert Cowan 525 Harrogate Rd. Matthews, North Carolina 28105

    2. Jerald As far as I know my James Mitchell was born in Ark. The reason I say 1869 is because he married in 1890 and his age is listed as 21. I'll keep your e-mail and if I ever find a connection, I'll let you know. The 1900 Census says his parents were born in Al. There is a John on the same page, so I am only assuming it might be a brother especially since ther is a Haskins living with John and James married Ida Haskins. Who knows? Mitchell is just such a common name. Good luck to you. Cheryl
