    1. [MITCHELL] MITCHELL'S OF MS, TN
    2. Steve Mitchell
    3. I am descended thru James H. Mitchell, b.abt 1811 in TN. We first confirmed him in the 1850 Madison County, Camden, MS census with his wife, Susanna, age 32, b. in TN, as well as 8 children, all b. in TN: Sarah A. 15, Mary E. 14, Nancy B. 11, George T. 10, Benjamin F. 8, James J. 6, Samuel L. 3, and Pacific T. 1. Based on the census, we think James H. Mitchell arrived MS just before 1850. We have found a James H. Mitchell in the enumerated 1840 McNairy County, TN census, but have been unable, to date, to confirm him as our James H. James H.'s son, George Turner Mitchell, is my gggrandfather, b. abt 1840, d. 1/8/1898, m. Henrietta Hemingway of SC, b. 4/2/1836, d. 3/3/1917. Ch. [all b. in MS] Ann b. 2/1/1867, d. 6/3/1952 m. Oliver P. McDaniel Susan b. 2/11/1869, d. 8/8/1968 m. Richard Stancel Barrett William James b. 1871, d. 1873 m. Nettie Spain ...William James is my ggrandfather who. ch. William Elmer Mitchell, Sr. b. 12/14/1901 d. 7/8/1977 m. Annie Maxwell of MS b. 11/3/1900 d. 7/31/1968 who ch. my father, William E. Mitchell, Jr. of MS b. 11/10/1925, d. 6/29/1985. Joseph Hemingway b.3/5/1877 m. Mary Ellen Smith George b. 1877 m. Flora Morphus Nellie b. 2/10/1878 d. 11/17/1941 m. James Davis McDaniel George Turner Mitchell enlisted in the 21st MS Infantry, Co. G. with two of his brothers, Benjamin F. and James J. ....James J. d. in the war of camp fever in his first year of service. George and Benjamin survived the war with minor leg wounds. James H., George T. and Benjamin F. owned and worked their own farms in Camden, Madison County, MS until their deaths. William James, William Elmer, Sr. George T. , his mother, Susanna , Loyd [son of James H. (?)] and Barrett kinfolk are buried at the Good Hope Cem. in Camden, Shiloh Presby Cem. Madison County and Sunflower Cem. in Ruleville MS. Do not know when James H. died or where he is buried, but do know that he died after the 1870 Madison County MS census and before the 1880. The missing link......... We are supposedly descended from the Moses Mitchell - Mary Grant union who ch. Israel b. 1/15/1796 of KY but don't know which wife. Even more distressing is that if Israel is indeed the missing link to our James H. of TN, that would make Israel only abt. 16 when he ch. James H. .....looks like we're on the wrong track here....maybe James H. is from one of the other siblings? The thing that keeps us on the Moses Mitchell - Mary Grant union is that family history says that we're related to Daniel Boone thru his sister, Elizabeth Boone, who m. William Grant, Mary's father. Based upon personal reminiscences of Israel, his father Moses b. abt 1750 PA is ch. of John Mitchell who built the first mill on the tidewater of the Schuylkill River, Pa. After John's death there in 1760, Moses and his mother, Lilas Morton b. 1730 removed from PA to the Yadkin River NC with a colony of Presbyterians under the Rev. Robert Hall. John Mitchell is the ch. of Sir Gavin Mitchell who came from Scotland to America in 1732 with his wife, Margaret Campbell, daughter of the eighth Duke of Argyle, six sons, four daughters, sons-in-laws, daughters-in-laws and grandchildren, seventy persons in all. [We have Margaret's Campbell and Stuart lineage as far back as the year 982...] If we could just bridge the gap of our James H. Mitchell to the Moses Mitchell - Mary Grant union, we'd some serious lineage connections of our Mitchells as well as being able to connect some very in-depth lineage we have on the Grants and Mortons. Other lineages we have in various depths to our lines are the Maxwells, Biggers, Barretts and Mathews. The depth of our confirmed people come from the settled areas of York and Laurens counties of SC before dispersing into MS, AL and TX. Can anybody shed any light on these families? Thank you. ........................................... S T E V E N M I T C H E L L 24W268 Hemlock Lane Naperville, IL 60540 smm@focalpointlights.com

    3. Hi, all, Just a note to say that I finally got my brother, Jim Mitchell, to put our dna results up on his personal web-site. Right now it is just the chart with two possible groups identified with different colors. After we get more tests expanded to 25 markers these might change. Right now we have a new participant whose 25 marker test is at the lab, 2 more 25 marker expansions at the lab, and 2 others whose expansions are waiting to go to the lab. My brother Gordon (#703) has expanded to 25 markers and his additional markers are only 1 off from #705. Since Gordon was the only Mitchell with a 25 at DYS 390, I am hoping to test a distant cousin to see if this is a recent mutation. Anyway, if you would like to access the Mitchell dna test results, go to www.jimmitch.zzn.com , go to “Extended Family” and then “Mitchell Family Tree INFO”. The picture on his opening page is our Mitchell family (my mother, brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, husband and children) at my daughter’s wedding two years ago. I hope to get more information on this site soon, but I know Jim is a busy guy. So, until I learn how to do web pages, this is it. 2. Since I am still receiving beaucoup bounces for subscribers with "hotmail" addresses as well as notices of subscribers being unsubscribed, just want to remind you to keep an eye on your list mail. As I mentioned before, if your mail bounces more than four times you will be unsubscribed from the list and will need to resubscribe. You should receive a notice from the system if you have been unsubscribed, so just send a message to: Listname-L-request@rootsweb.com substituting the name of the list to which you want to subscribe for "Listname". Use only the word "subscribe", as the system ignores anything else. Thanks. List Admin
