    3. Hello, Only known William Self in our family was born in Pontotoc Co., MS ca. 1855; lived briefly in Franklin Co. AR. He lived remainder of his life in Sevier Co., AR. Don't believe we connect to this other William. Thanks. 2. Thanks for the suggestion Doris. I think they are going to search Rockingham, Rockbridge and Bedford as well as another county that I can't remember. (I'm rather worried about them being in the Virginia area with the sniper though!) This cousin is determined that she is going to learn something about our family during this trip or else! If nothing she is meeting several of the very distant cousins during the three weeks. Conni Mitchell Braun

At the October term of 1904 of Polk County Probate Court, a J. H. Mitchell [believed to be a brother] was named administrator of the estate of R. B. Mitchell. Final settlement was reached in October 1905. In July 1905, Bitha's brother, I. E. Self, was named Guardian and Curator of the minor heirs of Robt. and Tabitha Mitchell. His purpose was to sell real estate for the benefit of the children, whose names were Lula Bell, Kittie, Robert, and Ode Mitchell. 1. [MITCHELL] Virginia Mitchells
    2. Thanks Jennifer. Our problem is that we know where our Old William Mitchell was born (from Revolutionary War pension application) and where he died (from his will in Madison County, Missouri). What we don't know are the names of his parents or his wife. We believe he was married in Virginia as the first 2-3 children were born there and we think the wife died in Grainger County, Tennessee where the family settled after leaving Virginia. Unfortunately we haven't found any records yet to provide names for these individuals. Thank you for your suggestions. Conni Mitchell Braun

    3. Hi Fran Thats good news. What you need now is a copy of the death certificate. That will have all the children on it. I can ask my friend here in Victoria to check on that for you if you like. Diggers deaths and marriages and births are all on a CD but not cheap. She has them as she is a Genealogy tutor. You might also get access to them at your local library or Genealogy Group. Are you near Brisbane - Local Council might help seeing as you have an address. Or just post a letter to that address - people are very helpful. I'll see what I can do. Fran do you know of "family search.org" site. click on to ancestors and then on to International Genealogy Index and fill-in details. I have a lot of fun with that site. 1. Re: [MITCHELL] Virginia Mitchells
    2. Connie: If she has time, in addition to poking around Rockingham County itself, she should go to the Virginia State Library in Richmond and the Virginia Historical Society on Boulevard. They have the best collection of ancient Va. records, especially Will and estate records and other records dating back into the early 18th Century. Go to the genealogical library section of the VSL and ask for help. They are most accommodating. You will have to join the VSL to get into some of the material, but it is worth the minor cost. The microfilm collection of ancient wills is mind-boggling. I spent a week there a few years ago and collected all my ancestral wills to about 1724. Tell her to bring lots of change for the copiers and microfiche machines. -David B. Mitchell
