    1. [MITCHELL] William Mitchell b. 1806 in TN?
    2. Jim Mitchell
    3. I'm still a newbie to ancestral tracing, but with all of the recent activity, I too will throw in my "dead end". My ggg grandfather was a William Mitchell, b 1806 somewhere in Tennessee, married to Mary Ann McKee on 3/21/1833 in St. Francois County, MO. At the 1850 census he was listed living in MO as a farmer owning the property. His children were: Sarah, William, Thomas, Rachel, Louisa, Adaline, James Baker (my gg gf), and John. Hoping some one can shed some light... Thanks in advance -- Jim Mitchell Jim-mitchell@socal.rr.com

    2. John Mitchell was born in Ireland circa 1750, he lived in North Carolina. His spouse is still unknown at this time. He fathered sons: William, Warren, and Howell, and probably many more children. According to my GG-grandfather, he fought in the Revolutionary War. John's sons moved on to TN., and then MS. 1. [MITCHELL] Mitchells in the UK
    2. Many Mitchells came to Ulster from Scotland. There's a good chronology on the Scottish Heritage Museum web site by Matthew Newsome on how the Ulster Scots migrated from Scotland and then to Charleston and Philadelphia seaports. The Mitchell name is also documented in Robert Bell's "Book of Ulster Surnames," which states that Mitchells are found in almost every county of Ireland. The name is among the 30 most common names in Scotland and is also very common in England according to Bell. Lionel Mitchell Yes, this is true, Mitchell is a common surname throughout the UK. Many Scots did migrate to Ulster, but Mitchell can also be found all over Ireland. According to one book that I have MITCHELL is most common in Ireland in county Antrim. MITCHELL is much more common in Scotland than Ireland. As some of us know from the DNA study the surname MITCHELL has probably been spelled many different ways and derives from more than one ethnic source. Doris Mitchell

    2. In a message dated 12/6/02 9:22:37 PM Pacific Standard Time, ssteward@ccountry.net writes: << Looking for information on my grandfather, Robert Taylor Mitchell. He was born Dec 29, 1878 in Peoria (Amite County), Mississippi. He died December 27, 1963 in Hobart (Kiowa County), Oklahoma. He was married on Dec 17, 1902 to Liller Viola Roberts in Hempstead County, Arkansas. 1880 census Pontotoc County, Mississippi lists Robert at age 1. He and his mother, age 36, were living in the household of Joseph and Martha Terry. Robert's mother, Jane, was listed as the mother-in-law. Martha Terry was age 20 so apparently Jane was only 16 years old when Martha was born. Robert's mother Jane was listed as a widow in the 1880 census. I have not been able to find any information on the father of Robert Taylor Mitchell. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sue Steward ssteward@ccountry.net >>

    1. Re: [MITCHELL] Nancy Mitchell White
    2. Hi Mary, I have undocumented info on Mary Mitchell White going back to one set of her 6th great grandparents. Mary's father, David Lynn Mitchell (1768-1831/45), was a brother of my ggggrandfather, Spencel Sterling Mitchell (1775-1849). Parents of Nancy Mitchell (1792-1871): David Lynn Mitchell (1786-1831/45) m. Martha Love (b. @ 1769 -?)I thought I had more on Martha but I don't. David Lynn Mitchell's parents were: Arthur Mitchell (1753-1798) m. Elizabeth Linn and/or Mary Gould Sargeant (b. @ 1745). Most sources give Elizabeth, but it's interesting that farther along in the Mitchell decendents Lynn, Linn and Gould are used as middle names. Parents of Arthur Mitchell are: Robert Mitchell (@1735-@1782) m. Ann Lea (@1739-?) I will be happy to snail mail you what I have if you send me your address. It's much to much to email or attach. Please remember that most of this is undocumented info, but it gives you a place to start. Sandy in Sacramento

    1. [MITCHELL] Richard Gano Mitchell
    2. carter james
    3. Dear good folks of the Mitchell list, There seems to be a lot of Mitchell activity, lately. So I thought I'd take advantage of all this activity to send a plea, once again, for information regarding my grandfather, Richard Gano Mitchell. He was born 17 DEC 1877 somewhere in Kentucky. Most likely, Fayette, Madison, Garrard, or Jessamine Counties. He attended Berea School from 1897 thru 1899. He was an electrician by trade, though he did not learn the trade at Berea. I think he first married Martha Anderson in early 1900s in Madison County, Kentucky. I believe they had a child named Ida. In 1912, he married Lucille Rodefer in Bristol, Tennessee. By 1920 they are in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio with three of their five children; Richard Gano, Jr., Geraldine Edelle, and Delno Attwood ( Warren and Donal Edward would come latter). In 1929, Richard divorced his wife and returned to Kentucky where he married again, Cynthia (unknown) and, I believe had several other children. He died in Corbin, Whitley County, Kentucky on Christmas Day in 1935 of tuberculosis. Funeral home records show that he was carried to Paint Lick, Kentucky for burial. I have been unable to find his grave or tie him to any family in the area. The death certificate states that Richard's father's name was, what else, John, and that his mother was, what else, Mary. I have looked so long and so hard to find....nothing. ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks for your continued support. So shines a good deed! Sincerely, JenniferGet more from the Web. 1. Re: [MITCHELL] Zachariah Mitchell
    2. I only have very little information on Zackariah. I found it when I was looking for my Stephen Mitchell. Whose mother was Malinda Mitchell who never married. Stephen was born and died in Arkansas. His mother Malinda was born in Tennessee to Zackariah and Mary. It says that Zackariah died in Titus County,Texas. And his father was John Mitchell born in 1780. That is all I have. I am not sure if it is correct or not.

    1. Re: [MITCHELL] Ransford Mitchell (Karen)
    2. Hi, Karen-- I was interested in your info (and this is stretching it a LOT), but I had an uncle Hugh Mitchell, and I was thinking perhaps it may have been a family name. He was the son of John Mitchell, b. AR, who was the son of Elijah Mitchell, b. ca. 1836, TN--county unknown. Elijah married Mary Jane Dickerson, also of TN, and they migrated to AR, and John later went to MO. I have no further info on the earlier part of the family, except that Elijah had a brother James, who also went to AR. I would love to know who the parents of Elijah and James were. I think I will start researching Green Co., which you mention, and also Hardin, which someone else mentioned. If any of this sounds familiar, I would appreciate knowing. As to the Irish origin, my mother always said they were Scot-Irish. I have not gotten back far enough to verify that, but would surely like to. Thanks. Barbra
