    3. Thought I might post some new info on my Mitchells. This is how my line pans out, but I got the info from the LDS site, so if anyone has document sources for any of these, I would sure appreciate it. Also, I'd like to hear from anyone who shares any of these. These are listed in reverse chronologocal order. JOHN MITCHELL, JR. married Elizabeth Tripp 1833. JOHN MITCHELL, SR. married Katherine Gould 1806. RICHARD MITCHELL married Joanna Lawton 1776. JAMES MITCHELL married Anne (or Anna) Folger 1738. RICHARD MITCHELL,JR. married Elizabeth Tripp (possibly late 1600's) RICHARD MITCHELL,SR. married Mary Wood (date unknown) I do have some birth & death dates and more specific marriage dates on some if anyone is interested. All of these MITCHELLS resided in RI (Portsmouth mostly). I'm thinking that possibly Richard, Sr. was born in England, based on the date. Any help would be appreciated. 1. Re: [MITCHELL] Celia Mitchell
    2. Hi Nita, The info I'm using is a combination of my mother's and grandmother's notes. My grandmother states Celia was born in 1859 in Illinois, while my mother saw a copy of Grace Norton's birth certificate that said Celia was born in 1867. My grandmother's notes say Celia was married to Lemuel Norton while on Grace's birth certificate her father is named as Samuel Norton of Wisconsin. I don't think there was a whole lot of communication between my grandmother and her grandmother, if any. The information on Celia's sister, Minerva is correct though, as her and Howard's grandson verified in a letter to my mother. For all I know, given the lack of accurate recordkeeping during those days, my Celia may very well be the same as your 'missing" Celia. This is one of two very difficult lines I'm trying to track, mainly due to the lack of generational pass-downs of family tales. Maybe we can tie the two together and make a complete family, but I doubt it. If Celia was born in 1848, she would have been 26 when her sister was born and 36 when Grace was born. Not impossible, to be sure, but very unlikely to have that many years seperate siblings. Rick

    1. [MITCHELL] Looking for Info on Jane Mitchell
    2. Sue Steward
    3. With all the activity on the list, thought it was a good time to list my information. My gr grandmother was Jane Mitchell born 1842-44, probably in South Carolina (according to census information). My grandfather, Robert Taylor Mitchell, was born in Peoria, Amite County, Mississippi. I found him on the 1880 census in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. His mother, Jane Mitchell, was listed as age 36 (census enumerated 6/4/1880) and listed as a widow. By 1889 they had moved to Arkansas where she was married to John W. Brooks in Nevada County, Arkansas on March 11, 1889, her age was listed as 47 on the marriage license application. Some other information seems to indicate she might not have been a widow but that my grandfather's birth might have been illegitimate, so this may possibly indicate her maiden name was Mitchell. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Sue Steward

    1. [MITCHELL] Celia Mitchell
    2. Since there seems to be so much activity here recently, I was hoping I'd get lucky. My ggg grandmother is Celia (Cecilia or Cele) Mitchell. She was born either 4 or 18 Jan 1859 or 1867 in Illinois and first married Samuel or Lemuel Norton (b. Wisconsin). They had a daughter named Grace May Norton b. 28 Jan 1884 in Shenadoah, Page Co., Iowa. Celia's second husband was J. R. Sry. Celia also had a sister named Minerva Lavinia Mitchell that was born in 1874 in Mitchell, Davison Co., South Dakota. Minerva married Howard Clover. Supposedly their father was named Charles Mitchell. Any help would be appreciated. Rick

    2. Tom Mitchell
    3. This could be considered an English Mitchell so will pass it on. While searching my Mitchells in Mercer Co Kentucky I came across a ledger made by the Shaker Society that was in Mercer Co most of the 1800s. There was a notation in the ledger that a William S Mitchell that was born 5 April 1835 in Yorkshire England came to the village 22 Mar 1873. He apparently was traveling with a Thomas Burks as they left sometime in the spring of 1874. That was all they noted. The Shakers was a religious community that took in homeless and others that needed help.

    2. keith d bailey
    3. I am Looking for information (a will, census records, probate records, ect.) that will help document the ancestors, siblings, or descendants of my ggg-grandparents Thomas B. Mitchell and Eliza Louisa unknown. Thomas B. Mitchell was born in SC in 1815. I assume he married Eliza Louisa unknown in South Carolina sometime ca.1842, + or - a year or two. He was listed on the 1850 census in Murray co. GA as Thomas Mitchel. He is listed in the 1860 census in Whitfield co. GA as Thos B Mitchell. He is listed in the 1870 census in Whitfield co. GA as Thomas Mitchel. He died in Whitfield county Georgia in 1879. Eliza Louisa unknown was born in SC in 1823. It is possible that she was part Cherokee. She was listed in the previously mentioned census records. In 1880, she is listed in Whitfield co. GA as the head of household. I have not yet located her in the 1900 census. She died in 1904. The Children: 1 James L H ..................born ca.1844 in SC ~ died unknown 2 Marry Nancy Ann .........born Dec. 13, 1846 in GA ~ Jan. 17, 1879 married B.F.Holland in 1864, Children: B.F jr. 1866-, Thomas B. 1869, James (Jim) 1871-, Rufus 1873, Lucy Louizer 1876-1943 3 Thomas B. Sarah E.......................born ca.1856 6. Josephine ...................born ca.1858 7. George W. ..................born ca.1858 Notable Mistakes: The 1860 census lists Sarah and W?? as Twins, however it is obvious George and Josephine were the twins. Also, the 1870 census has Thomas written twice, one being the same age as George.. Keith Bailey Gordon Co GA
