    3. Carol, I have Herbert Mitchell and his wife Fanny coming to MI from MA in the early 1880's. They had 3 children: Dora (my g grandmother), Percey (Percy), and Stella. Dora was born in MA 1882, Percey in MI in 1886 and Stella in MI in 1890. Any of these helpful to you? I have more info if needed. 2. cheryl, If you have access to the 1880 census, which is at all the LDS Family History Librarys, you can search my state and then when you find them, you can also look to see who their neighbors were.........Jackie

    2. Well certainly, death cert. information isn't always reliable, but in my opinion, it's definately worth a try.I think MOST of the time the information on the death cert. would be correct. Doris

    3. Social Security Application information would be good source but since the death certificate information is provided by another person there could be wrong information listed. This is the case with my 2nd great grandfather. His youngest son was the informant and listed his birthplace as Colmar, France when it was really Schwyz, Switzerland. So take caution when listing that information as fact. 1. [MITCHELL] James and Hardeman Tenn
    2. Tom Mitchell
    3. Richard I dont believe there any James in Lawrence Co in 1870 but I believe that there was a James born there that went to Arkansas after the war. I am writing from memory but I believe he went to around Ft Smith. Either he or his son later became the editor of a Little Rock newspaper. He married a woman from somewhere around Nashville Tenn. He was the son of a James from Monroe Co Indiana and there are still Mitchells living there from his line. I found the Robert Mitchell and wife in Hardeman Co Tenn both were born in County Down Ireland. They had children born in NY and NC before Tenn.

    2. Conni, Maybe if you called and talked to them on the phone, that might help get them to submit a sample, sometimes just hearing the other person's voice can be an incentive. It's worth a try anyway. :) Doris

    1. Re: [MITCHELL] DNA Testing
    2. Conni, There is a test for women, but only for the mitochondrial dna which is passed from mother to daughter. I am thinking about doing that. Supposedly, one can trace back to one of 7 women who lived long long ago. Have a good day. :) Doris

    3. You might see if you can locate a copy of his marriage license. That's how I was able to locate my 2nd great grandfather Joseph's birthplace. It's information provided by that person and not someone else so it's more likely correct. We had my ancestor being born in Colmar, France for years and years but two separate searches of the archives in France did not find records. We found them for his father, George but not him. Then I got a copy of Joseph's marriage license and he said he was born in Switzerland not France. And a search there revealed the records I wanted to document his birth. Happy Researching! ----- Original Message ----- From: "latterdaygirl" <latterdaygirl@juno.com> To: <MITCHELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 07, 2003 8:12 AM Subject: [MITCHELL] Mitchell's in Obion TN > I am still looking for any information about my Mitchells.
