    2. Kerstin - Reference - John Henry Mitchell - Also, Thomas H. Mitchell of Walton Co, GA - I am very interested in the Thomas H. Mitchell you made reference to in your message - In particuliar, the county from whence he lived (Walton Co GA) - Do you have anything else on him? Children? In the book, "Wayfarers of Walton County GA" (I can't recall the author) there were quite a few adult Mitchell's in Walton Co GA including my ancestor, Hinchey Mitchell born 1775 VA and who left a will in Clayton Co GA dated 1863 - Clayton Co was carved from Henry Co in 1821. According to the author of the above mentioned book, this part of GA was NC and the two, fought over the boundries - Very early on, there is mention of an Andrew Mitchell living in Walton Co with a huge household - over 12 I believe - Thanks for your message and any reference to the Thomas H. Mitchell. MaryJean Childress Voegtlin

    1. [MITCHELL] Ben G. Mitchell
    2. Does anyone know anything about Ben G. Mitchell probably born in the 1820's in GA? All that I have is that he m. Catherine Love in MS. She was part Indian. When the Indians moved west, he did not like it in I.T. (OK) and she did not want to go to GA with him. The marriage was disolved by mutual consent. My Mitchell line goes into the Love line and, although Ben G. Mitchell is not my direct line, I am curious as to how he may be related to my Mitchell. Marlene

    3. This was on my Jackson County, Missouri mail list. I thought it might be of help to someone. "The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Tuesday, April 30, 1912 THREE STRANDED MAIDENS. Three girls who arrived in Kansas City Sunday expecting to be met by relatives were disappointed and two of them were taken yesterday afternoon to the Girls' Hotel, Eighteenth and Jefferson streets, and the third, Carrie BENDER, is in care of Mrs. Minnie WALK, police matron at headquarters. Miss BENDER is 17 years old and decidedly good looking. She arrived Sunday afternoon from Bloomington, Ill. The aunt, Mrs. Harry FULMER, was not there. "My uncle, John BENDER, with whom I have been living at Bloomington, sent a telegram to Aunt Mary telling her I was coming," Miss BENDER said. "Of course I know now that she did not receive the message for we did not have her street address." The two girls taken to the Girls' Hotel are sisters, Helen and Virginia MITCHELL, 17 and 19 years old. They were in route to their home ten miles from Topeka, Kas., after a 6-weeks' visit with an aunt at Louisiana, Mo. They said a cousin, Harvey WILKINSON, was to have met them here and accompanied the girls to Topeka. The police are trying to locate the absent relatives.

    1. Re: [MITCHELL] MITCHELL, Thomas Goodwin, Hartwell, Nancy Ann IN va>ga
    2. Hi Connie - List and David - Reference the Thomas Mitchell's of GA - As far as my research goes, there seemed to be at least 3 adult Thomas Mitchell's in GA prior to the ARW. One of them is said to have been married to Elizabeth Dooley, daughter of Capt Dooley - The Dooley family were well known in GA (Wilkes Co) a long time before the ARW - Wilkes was the largest county in GA at the time, about 58,000 - Ellizabeth Dooley Mitchell it is said, was widowed young. Her husband Thomas was in the ARW with the rank of LT. It is also said that his land grants in Wilkes Co GA were seized piece by piece by the Sheriff and also that Thomas Mitchell's will was destroyed by an attorney in his office. Seems Elizabeth Dooley Mitchell was involved with slave's and their freedom (sources from Robert Scott Davis, author) - I recommend any of Robert Scott Davis's books on early GA history. LT Thomas Mitchell's estate passed to his widow, but she lost much of it according to records from Wilkes Co GA - Their only known children I could locate were two - a son and one daughter - Elizabeth it seems was also seen on the back of a horse fleeing the county and she rode with Thomas Bibb. The Bibbs being another well respected, weathy planation owers, with connections to many of the movers and shakers of GA during that period of GA history. They were said to have migrated to KY - Also probate records suggest that the son was in charge of handling what was left of the estate, a fascinating story. I might add also, the Bibbs are related to me thru other lineages - But there were many of the Bibb's within the GA government and also one was Governor of AL - They connect to Terry - McDaniel, Raines and other's. The other's were a Thomas Mitchell family in Clark Co GA records - This Thomas had a large family per his will in Clark CO - A Henry Mitchell also lived there, was married to a Nancy Hanby or Hamby per Clark Co marriages... and was in the tax records along with Thomas - Both were adults - My ancestor, Hinchey Mitchell was also paying taxes in Clark Co during the same time frame (1809) - Then we have the family tradition of (author of GWTW) - Margaret Mitchell Marsh (her father's) - Their ancestor was to have been Thomas Mitchell of Wilkes Co GA - Data does not match however to prove there was ever a man of whom Margaret Mitchell's ancestor (William) descended from, named Thomas - Even tho it is a tradition in their family. The same data they produced matched the data which was proven for the Lt Thomas Mitchell who married Elizabeth Dooley - accordingly, the land grants. I also noted a Thomas, Edward, Starling and Hinchey Mitchell in SC - Old Edgefield District - before 1790 - Several of them migrated to Hancock Co GA per land records - The Hinchey Mitchell having the same christian name as my own ancestor was very odd and unusual. But, this Hinchey born about 1772 VA, migrated to Tuscaloosa Co AL and died there 1819. My Hinchey was born 1775 VA and died in Clayton Co GA where he left a very large family and a Will (1863. FYI - the name Hinchey is from the Irish name of Hennessy - The other Thomas's would be those of David Mitchell - whose messages contain data on Thomas Goodwin Mitchell. Several younger Thomas's and Henry's with a brother John were also in early GA records. More than one John however, there seemed to have been at least 2 or 3 in the ARW - and Robert Scott Davis's books make mention of them. MaryJean

    2. Hello David - Thank you for confirming the information! Yes, I've read quite alot about your branch of Mitchell - I live in GA and the GA Archives has a data on them in the "Mitchell Papers" which are loose papers. There were so many family traditions, it's hard to separate them all:) There were connections to me (outside Mitchell) to the Branch family, thus my original research into them. My great grandfather had the name James Thomas Monroe "Branch" Mitchell. Now, whether or not it is a connection to the Branch-Mitchell family, I don't know at this point. But, I've read a great deal about your line of Mitchell. Thank you for your message, appreciate it. MaryJean
