Thanks so much for your reply. My grandfather was Lawrence Mitchell and had 3 sisters, Lena, Mertye and Belle, All lived in the mid-michigan area. I never heard anything about the family and at the present have no idea where they came from. I have been researching the Aumaugher family and am ready to start the Mitchells. If I learn any more when I go to the court house in the next couple weeks, I will let you know. Thanks again for the reply.
Thank you for your reply. My Grandfather was Lawrence Mitchell. He had 3 sister, Lena, Mertye, and Belle. They all lived in the mid-Michigan area. I really would like to find out more about my Grandfather's family but hardly know how to begin since I have so little information. My grandfather was a blacksmith. and lived at Edgewood which is 9 miles east of Ithace Michigan. If any of this fits with the info you have on the Mitchells I would be most happy to hear from you again. Maybe we can put this together. I have been researching the Aumaugher's and am almost finished , or as finished as you can be. I will be going to the court house again this week or next and will start looking for the Mitchells in this area.
Thanks for the reply. My Grandfather on my Mother's side was Lawrence Mitchell. He had 3 sisters, Lena, Mertye and Belle . I never knew where they came from or any of the rest of the Mitchell. They lived in the mid Michigan area. Grandpa Mitchell lived at Edgewood, 9 miles east of Ithaca, Michigan and was a blacksmith. If you can tell if there is any connection, please let me know. Again thanks for your reply.
MaryJean, I have more information on his wife than on Thomas Mitchell. Thomas was born in 1793 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. He married Ruth Tillery on Sep 18, 1814 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. She was born Mar 23, 1787 in either Surry County or Rockingham County, North Carolina and died Aug 12, 1874 also in Walton County, Georgia. Together they had eight children: Ann T. b. feb 2, 1816 John Henry b. Nov 2, 1817 Wilson Lumpkin b. Feb 1820 Jett Thomas b. Apr 22, 1822 Susannah Matilda* b. Mar 28, 1825 Joshua Marion b. Oct 13,1826 Francis William b. Apr 3, 1829 Sarah Eliza b. May 27, 1831 All children are believed to be born in Walton County. I'll like to have more information on Thomas if anyone has it. There is more about his children. I have the names of some spouses and their children. I hope some of this helps somebody. ----- Original Message ----- From: <MJVChildress@aol.com> To: <MITCHELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 17, 2003 4:17 PM Subject: Re: [MITCHELL] John Henry Mitchell where are you? > > > Kerstin - > > Reference - John Henry Mitchell - Also, Thomas H. It looks as if he must want me to give his info. Looking in another book the only Mitchell mentioned - Anna Marie Mitchell d/o Nathan Mitchell and Maria Nettles, bt. 31 May 1801, bn. 12 Dec 1799, spo. Andres Envings & Maria Mitchell, Pat. GP Isaac Mitchell & Maria Mitchell Mat. GP Joaquin Nettles & Priscilla Vanthlere - St. James Parish, LA (SJA-3, 215) I wish I could find this much on my Mitchell.
Today, while waiting for new tires to be put on, I took a book with me - "First Settlers Of Mississippi Territory". The only Mitchell I found was a David Mitchell. He had received 400f on Second creek by Spanish Patent June 8, 1792, 366 on the water of River Homochitto by British Patent, Oct. 27, 1772, 240 on the Homochitto British Patent Oct. 27, 1772. "First Settlers of the Louisiana Territory" - Nathan Mitchell for his daughter, Priscilla Mitchell, a minor - also a piece of land for himself. Land was inhabited and cultivated by 1800 or before. I just wanted to pass this on in case it could help anyone. Neither are in my line.
My Mitchell's were also from MN, but I don't recognize any of your names. Perhaps as we go farther back there will be a connection. I'll keep there names and will let you know if I run across anything in my searches. If you would like to send me any info, I'll run it through Ancestry.com, if you are unable to. That also goes back to Ireland and has immigration information. Have you tried it? www.Ancestry.com . Let me know what happens. By the way, my ancestors are William Mitchell and Violet Olson line. ----- Original Message ----- From: <BGCAPorter@aol.com> To: <MITCHELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2003 7:24 PM Subject: [MITCHELL] Re: MITCHELL-D Digest V03 #56 > I think you have a great idea; especially since my Mitchells are not Southern > as far as I can find. Thanks, I was hoping that others would do the same like Richard did. There was a problem with the sites he gave, but it said they were aware of the problem and were trying to fix it. Marlene I don't know why anyone would object. I am always interested in getting more names and information to see if there is a possible connection with my family. Sue
Preston Mitchell is my gggrandfather. He apparently came to Texas (Robertson County) from Tennessee around 1845. He married Elizabeth C. and they had one son John E 1860-1887. Elizabeth married Ben Wheelis in 1865. It is said that Preston was killed in the Civil War but I have not been able to vertify. Preston's son John E. went back to Tennessee and married Cora (Callie) Davis in Haywood County in 1877. Since he was only 17, I thought he may have relatives in that part of TN. He moved back to Texas in 1884, and was murdered in 1887. Preston's ggranddaughter said that he had a visit from a relative once and she thought he was from Nashville area. Elizabeth C. may have been married to an Allen Smith at some point, either they had a child A.Smith Jr. or he was a Junior. As you can see, I have very little concrete information on the Mitchells. Preston was killed ? and his wife remarried. John E. was killed at a young age and his wife remarried. So most of the Mitchell information was los. I saw some postings in the archives that listed a Preston as the son of Greenville. Does anyone know anything about this or any Preston that may be my ancestor. Thank you most sincerely. I think you have a great idea; especially since my Mitchells are not Southern as far as I can find. My ggreatfather, John Mitchell, is in Minn. in 1850-60-70 and was from Ireland. I've found no Mitchell in this site from Minn. I've tried to find him in Canada but no success yet. I may be wrong, but I do think he probably came to Canada first. (John & Nancy McCoy Mitchell.) Anything will help! Betty
Porter- Really want to thank you for the lesson on FTM. I never tried that before. It seems if we all did that, we could sure help each other more than we have in the past. Thanks again. Marlene

Family Tree Maker (5.0 and higher) have a sort feature that lets the user sort individuals by any feature that is included in the fact list, including birth and death. To use this feature, go to special report. Select "individuals to include", then "selected individuals". When you get to the individuals screen, first click on the double left arrow to clear the selected individuals list on the right and then click on "find". The selection criteria dialog box will appear and you can select birth, death, or marriage place and list the place in the blankj. If you want more than one of the criteria, just repeat the process. (The report format must include the selected criteria as a column for the desired information to appear.) Porter Womeldorff
