ELLIS, 86, Big Rapids, Mich., formerly of Sturgis, died Aug. 1, 1980 in the Greenridge Nursing Home in Big Rapids, where she had resided seven years. She had been in failing health seven years. Mrs. ELLIS was born April 5, 1894, in New York, N.Y., a daughter of Andrew and Martha (OTTS) ENKEIMIER. She had been a Sturgis resident 23 years before moving to Big Rapids. On June 10, 1918 she married Earl I. ELLIS, in Montgomery, Ala. He died Nov. 6, 1962. Mrs. ELLIS held the rank of senior major in the Salvation Army 50 years. She had assisted her husband as commander of the Sturgis Salvation Army from 1936-38. She had been stationed at Manistee, Monroe, Elkhart, Ind., Indianapolis, Ind., and other Indiana stations. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frances MENGES, Apache Junction, Ariz.; a son Earl I. ELLIS Jr., Sheboygan, Wis.; five grandchildren, Donald SHERMAN, Evert, Mich.; Staff Sgt. Robert SHERMAN, Augsburg, Germany; Larry and Timothy ELLIS, both of Sheybogan, Wis., and Barbara ELLIS, North Hollywood, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Kathryn BLODGETT, New York, N.Y.; Mrs. Elise SCHRIEFER, Dillsburg, Pa., and Mrs. Esther PETRIE, Rialto, Calif.; a brother, Arthur ENKEIMIER, Forest Hills, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lemma ELLIS, Fairmount, W.V., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral services were held today in the Foglesong Funeral Home, Major Dennis Phillips of the Salvation Army officiated with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
