He was born Feb. 6, 1911, in Hastings, a son of Harry and Laura (BRACE) ELDRED. On Aug. 5, 1933, he married Ruby SCAMP. He attended school in the Hastings area. He had lived in the Harper Creek area all of his married life. He had owned and operated a farm and he raised and raced horses. He was employed 13 years at the Michigan Carton Company, Battle Creek, and 33 years as a machinist in the packing department at the Kellogg Company. He retired in 1971. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club, the Battle Creek Pony Association, the U.S. Trotting Association and the Memorial Spiritualist Church, Battle Creek. Surviving are his wife; mother, Laura FOOTE, Battle Creek; one daughter, Marjorie HAAN, Battle Creek; two sons, Gordon ELDRED and Danny ELDRED both of Battle Creek; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen DEMPSEY, Battle Creek, Leona TOZER, Detroit, and Clara LeGRAND, Jacksonville Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Carl. Relatives and friends may call after 2 p.m. today at the Spencer Funeral Home, Athens, where services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Julia Bradford, Memorial Spiritualist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Danfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. END
