He was born July 1, 1902, in Girard, Ill., a son of Edmund and Minnie (BOSWELL) ECCLES. On July 31, 1930, he married Frances CARTER, in Joliet, Ill. After graduating from Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill., he was employed for more than 35 years at the Illinois Bell Telephone Company. He purchased his Mendon farm in 1939 and retired there in 1964. He engaged in farming and specialized in raising sheep. He was instrumental in beginning the sheep and goat judging at the St. Joseph County Grange Fair. He was a 4-H leader and a member of the Farm Bureau, Mendon Grange 1513 and the Good Sam Camping Club. He had served as chairman of the Portage Lake Association. He attended the West Mendon United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife; one sister, Leola YOCOM, Lauderhill, Fla.; one niece and two nephews. Relatives and friends may call anytime after noon today at the Eickhoff Funeral Home, Mendon, where services are at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Lloyd Hansen, West Mendon United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the West Mendon United Methodist Church. END
