ECKER, 84, of 411 Wenzel Ave., Sturgis, died at 4:15 p.m. Sunday in Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home in Columbia City, Ind., where she was admitted Nov. 4 of this year. She had been in failing health the last nine months. Her condition became serious last month. Mrs. ECKER was born in LaGrange, Ind., Aug. 20, 1891, to George and Sara (MOSHER) SCHERMERHORN. She was married to Ray ECKER, in LaGrange, Jan. 4, 1913. He died March 16, 1935. They moved to Sturgis from LaGrange 55 years ago. Mrs. ECKER had been employed as a domestic worker for the late Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Van Horn, the late Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Cavin and the Foglesong Funeral Home for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Untied Methodist Women and Unit 34, Mothers of World War II. Surviving are two sons, Frank of Sturgis and George of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Inez BARNELL of Sturgis, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Roland H. ECKER, who died Dec. 27, 1967; two brothers and one sister. Friends may call at the Foglesong Funeral Home. Private services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the mortuary, with the Rev. Hilding W. Kilgren officiating. Interment will be made in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange. Memorials may be directed to the Simpson Research (Leukemia), University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. END
