He was born May 21, 1919, a son of Paul and Mabel (SUMMERS) ECKERT. On Sept. 6, 1941, he married Louise M. PETTIS in South Bend, Ind. A lifetime resident of Sturgis, he had been employed for 31 years at Formed Tubing, retiring in 1978. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sturgis and the St. Joseph County Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife, Louise; two sons, John ECKERT, LaGrange, Ind., and David ECKERT, Sturgis; four grandchildren; one brother, Paul ECKERT, Sturgis; three nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and a sister, Ruth. Relatives and friends may call at the Rosenberg-Schipper Funeral Home, Sturgis, after 7 p.m. today where the family will receive them from 7-9 p.m. and all day Sunday. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the St. Johns evangelical Lutheran Church, Sturgis, with the Rev. Paul H. Stern officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Post #1355 of Sturgis. Memorials may be directed to the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church. END
