He was born on December 7, 1928 in Three Rivers, the son of Laurence Edward and Neva L. (CRAW) ELY. Mr. ELY attended schools in Saginaw, Michigan and Three Rivers. He was married to Virginia Ann BROWN on July 25, 1954 in Centreville. Mr. ELY was employed by the Gilbert Oil Company, the Bonfoey Dairy and was most recently working at North American Products in Three Rivers. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Ann; one daughter, Mrs. Frank (Patricia A.) MEUDT of Three Rivers; six sons, Douglas R. ELY of Constantine, Kenneth W. ELY, Gerald B. ELY, Thomas H. ELY, Steven S. ELY, all of Three Rivers, Brian S. ELY of Mendon; his mother, Mrs. Nela L. (CRAW) PIERCE of Three Rivers; five sisters, Mrs. Richard (Betty) CHRISTENSEN of Honolulu, Hawaii, Mrs. Jack (Alice) LaPAN of Saginaw, Michigan, Mrs. Viola KELLER of Three Rivers, Mrs. Guy (Laura) QUARANDILLO of Bristol, Indiana, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) BAILEY of Empire, Michigan; four brothers, Lawrence S. (Bill) PIERCE, Robert J. PIERCE and James F. PIERCE, all of Three Rivers and Charles A. PIERCE f Traverse City, Michigan; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Laurence ELY; step-mother, Eva PETERS; step-father, Arthur PIERCE and infant son, Jeffrey. Religious services for Mr. ELY will be held Wednesday, March 25, 1987 at 1:30 p.m. From the Halverson Chapel with Rev. Robert C. Johnson of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-6 and 7-9 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Heart Fund. END
