ELY, 81, whose home was at 248 Middle Colon Road in Burr Oak Township, died at 1:57 p.m. Monday in Sturgis Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient one day. He had been in declining health over the last three years. Mr. ELY was born in Coshocton, Ohio, July 20, 1887, a son of Joseph and Matilda (RUESS) ELY. He was married to Clara McKALE on the Ely homestead at Burr Oak, Nov. 4, 1908. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church here and of the Aid Association for Lutherans. He was prominently known in farming circles, where he had been active all his adult life until retiring in 1954. During this span he had been active in the Farm Bureau. Surviving are his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Norris (Ella) HOLLISTER of Bronson; three grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A foster son, Alonzo ELY, preceded him in death. Funeral services are to be observed at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in St. John’s Lutheran Church, with the Rev. H.M. Heidenreich officiating. Burial will take place in Burr Oak Cemetery. Friends may call at the Burr Oak Funeral Home until Thursday noon when the body will be taken to the church. If desired memorials may be directed to the St. John’s Church building Fund. END
