CARPENTER, 67, of 5320 Elizabeth Drive, died March 2, 1987, at Lila Hospital, Battle Creek. She had been seriously ill for the past six weeks. She was born June 4, 1919, in Leonidas Township, a daughter of the late Bert J. and Jennie (SHOOK) KLINE. On Nov. 13, 1948, she married Clifton L. CARPENTER in Mendon. He died in June 1985. She was a lifelong resident of the Leonidas and Colon area. She graduated in 1938 from Colon High School. For 40 years, she was employed at Lamb Knit Goods Company, Colon. She retired in 1981. She was a life member of the Colon Community Historical Society and a member of the Colon American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Ovid (Florence) ROE, Athens; one brother, Lee E. KLINE, Leonidas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul KLINE in 1977, and one sister, Kathaleen TOMLINSON, in 1982. The family will receive relative and friends from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Schipper Funeral Home, Colon. Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with David J. Farrell officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Colon Community Historical Society or the Colon Rescue Squad. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. END
