MOTTER, SAUCED, SHIRLEY, DANE George MOTTER, Former Mendon Resident, Died as Result of a Fall. Last Saturday morning about 11 o'clock George MOTTER, a former resident and business man of Mendon, was fatally injured by the upsetting of a load of hay upon which he was riding. Particulars are as follows. Mr. MOTTER and John PURDY were riding on a load of hay at a point about 2 1/2 miles northwest of Colon; the load shifted in getting out of the way of an auto truck and eventually the load tipped over. Mr. MOTTER was thrown under the load in such a manner that his vertebrae was fractured at the back of the neck and he was unconscious and paralyzed when taken from under the load by Mr. PURDY, who was not injured. Mr. MOTTER was taken to his home near Leonidas. He soon recovered his senses, but the physicians called soon realized that he was fatally injured. About 10:30 Sunday night he again became unconscious and remained so until he died at 11 o'clock Monday morning, just 48 hours after the accident. Mr. MOTTER was well know in Mendon, where he had many friends. Up to about thirteen years ago he conducted a meat market, when he was burned out; previous to this he had a feed store here. After working around for a time he moved on to Doc Benedict's place, where he remained 9 years; then he moved to the old Graham place, where he remained at the time of his death. Mr. MOTTER was born at Pleasant Mills, Ind., and would have been 67 years on the 7th of May. He is survived by his wife; three sons; Roy of Mendon, Sam of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Ray of Battle Creek; also three daughters; Mrs. Minnie SAUCED of Los Angles, Cal., Mrs. Lovada SHIRLEY of Elkhart, Ind., and Mrs. Pearl DANE of Three Rivers.
