Does anyone have a copy of the Homespun Book that they can check for something for me? I have found all the Charles B. Fitch info that the index (on line) shows for the pages associated with him....EXCEPT....for the info on his wife, Harriet Bissell p.p. 8. I can't find that in the on line version. I am trying to find out more about Harriet Bissell...who her Bissell family was. I am certain they came from CT....and probably were in Ohio in Trumbull Co where there were indeed Bissells. However...she does not appear in the Bissell Book by Jones which lists descendents of Captain John Bissell of CT. I am esp interested in her because of the closeness of St. Joseph Co to Kalamazoo. Thank you for any help with this. Julie Bissell Tupker
The "Homespun", is a book written about the history of St. Joseph County. You should be able to find a copy of it in any of the St. Joseph County public libraries, or at Glen Oaks Community College. I have no idea who the author/editors were or the date of publication. Patricia Maher
Greetings, At the following website address for the St Joseph Co., MI USGenWeb page: http://members.tripod.com/~tfred/mistjo.html you'll see along the left side of the page a link named, "History". Click on that, and on the next page, scroll down until you come to the Three Rivers, MI section. There's a link for "Homespun in St Joseph", which is a Centennial Souvenir book written by Sue I. Silliman in 1931. The entire book has been transcribed and is online at the St Joseph Co., MI website. For a really quick way to find if your ancestor is listed in this book, go back to the main page, and use the search engine. Frank and all, I love to hear about happy endings... and yours certainly was one. Nancy's unsubscribed already, but maybe she'll return some day. I have some good news for those of you who stuck it out with the avalanche of email that has permeated our 'inboxes'. I finally was sent instructions on how to 'turn off' the gatewaying from the Message Boards to the Mailing list. (Sorry, didn't know this was an option for me to do) This should take care of the high level of activity that we were all experiencing from the Obituary postings. If you want to view the Obituary postings at the Message Board, go to the following URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p= and then follow this sequence of links: Localities > North America > United States > States > Michigan > Counties > St. Joseph Hope this helps, Regards, Denise MISTJOSE-L List Owner > Nancy Please Do Not unsubscribe > You may miss your hammer that breaks the wall.Three years of searching with > out luck,Then an obit posting told me more about my Great Grandfather in 2 > minutes then I learned in 2 years. > Thank you Kay Gabel And Thank You Carole Carr.Words alone can not describe > my Joy. > > Thank you > Frank [snip] > > > > Hi, > > > > Because of this change I have been forced to unsubscribe and I really > > didn't want to. Nancy and list members, This is your choice, of course, but I urge you to reconsider. We have been blessed with a County that has a tremendous amount of activity due to the generosity of volunteer transcribers who take it upon themselves to submit obituaries, biographies (and more) for researchers to view. We are so fortunate to have this level of activity and I am honored to 'host' not only this Mailing list, but the St Joseph Co., MI USGenWeb site which also contains a huge amount of data for researchers to enjoy (due to the generosity of submitters). Awhile back, RootsWeb (the actual 'owner' of the Mailing lists and the GenConnect Boards) was bought out by MyFamily.com. MyFamily.com took it upon themselves to merge/gateway the GenConnect posting Boards with each respective/coinciding Mailing list. I had no say (as the Administrator of the GenConnect boards (now known as a Message Board) nor as the Listowner of the Mailing list). It just happened. There was no discussion, nor input and they (MyFamily.com/RootsWeb) felt it would be in our (the researcher's) best interests. If you're subscribed to the mailing list, the posting from a Message Board is sent out right a way. This gives the researcher an immediate opportunity to view a posting made 'at' the Message Board. Although there is a lot of emails arriving daily in your inbox, it is simple enough to scan through the messages and hit the delete button. Although you do not see the Digest Mailing list as an alternative, it does serve a purpose for those researchers who would rather recieve just 3-4 messages per day (several email messages are combined into 1 email). If you have your heart set on not subscribing to the mailing list in Digest form, the only other alternative I can recommend at this time is to occassionally scan the Archives of the MISTJOSE-L mailing list. That URL is located at the following website address: http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Good luck with your research, Regards, Denise MISTJOSE-L mailing list Listowner Hi, Because of this change I have been forced to unsubscribe and I really didn't want to. I belong about a dozen other lists and they don't do this. Who's idea was this anyway? Before you suggest it I don't like the digest format. Nancy Washington Twp., Mi.
I am a lot of lists and do not care for the digest mode. It's strictly a matter of preference. I have to unsubscribe even though I really don't want to. I can't have all of these messages coming from one list. I do appreciate all the trouble that she is going through to post these obits but I thought that was what the GENWEB pages were for. But such a tire as mourning seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam; When that which ran from the endless deep, Turns again home Twilight and the evening bell, And after that the dark; And may there be no sadness of farewell When I embark, For though from out the bourne of time and place, The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar, A place is vacant in our home; A voice we love is still; A place is vacant in our home, Which never can be filled.
