Diane, My Harriet Froenyn FOLLET was born: Oct 27, 1820 in New York died: March 6, 1852 in Sturgis, St. Joeseph Co., MI I think that Harriet's father may have been Calvin FOLLETT. This guess is made due to census information: This from my notes: 1840 Elba, Genesee County, NY - Pg. 627, M704, Film 287 Ransom Lester 1male 20 - under 30 1 female 15 - under 20 directly above them is: Calvin Follett 2 males 20 - under 30, 1 male 30 - under 40, 1 male 60 - under 70, 1 female 15 - uner 20, 1 female 50 - under 60 KR note: Ransom and Hariett named their second son Calvin Luvant Perhaps Your Henry FOLLETT was a uncle to my Harriet>............ making Mariah and Harriet cousins............... I have seen no evidence that Calvin FOLLETT moved on to Michigan. Hi Listers, I am looking for a George Harrison who is suppose to be on this 1845 Michigan census in St Joseph county. Would that film be at Sturgis anywhere? If not where in the county? Lansing is a long drive for me and this may not be the George I want. Thanks......Gary in Ohio
Kathy, I have a George Miller who is married to a Mariah Follett, who could be from the same family as this Follett. George Miller's wife, Mariah A. Follett, was born in NY July 8, 1817, so maybe Harriet could be Mariah's sister? Henry Follet, Mariah's father is discussed as the first medical doctor in Cass Cty., (History of Cass Cty., Mathews.) This article says he had 6 children, but does not name them. I know that one was Urial, but I do not know the names of the rest of them. Henry Follet and his wife are buried at Five Points Cemetery near George and Mariah Miller. The stones say the following: Dr. Henry Follet died December 14, 1849, aged 61 yrs., (1 m., 9 dys., I think, but this part is hard to read). Mary, wife of Dr. Henry Follet, born February 16, 1798, died in Michigan City, Ind., November 30, 1880, Erected by U.G. and M.I. Follet ( think U.G. is Urial). Joseph W., son of Dr. Henry & Mary Follet William H., son of Dr. H. and Mary Follet, died November 18, 1837, 13 years, 5 ms., 26 days Amelia, daughter of Dr. H. & M. Follet, died October 11, 1840, aged 4 ms., 6 dys. Does this look like it connects? Good Morning! We have many old photos that have been passed down to us. Sadly, we don't know many of the people in them. What we do know (in most cases) is where they were photographed which we have listed under the photograph. We believe many of them probably are from collateral lines or are of family friends. Please feel free to view. We would love to hear from anyone who may recognize someone from these photos. There are also other unidentified photos that were taken in neighboring counties. Searching for information on Mrs. Esther JACKSON (died 3 Dec 1916 at age 89 in Three Rivers MI), and information on her husband & descendents. Her death certificate states that she was a widow (does not give her husband's name), the names of her parents were marked as "unknown", and that she was born in New York State. Esther was the daughter of Abel ALLEN and Mary (Polly) CORNELL, and was born in either Saratoga County or Warren County in upstate New York. She had 6 brothers who served in the Civil War, and her uncle, Luther Cornell, served in the War of 1812. Does anyone know which newspaper would have covered Three Rivers in 1916 and where I might write of a copy of Esther Jackson's obituary? Any information on this Jackson family will be greatly appreciated. Jane Knobloch
Greetings St Joseph Co., MI researchers, Activity has been slow and our subscriber list has had new researchers join recently, so I thought I'd start a query search. Please post your collateral line surnames from St Joseph County. I'll start. The above surnames are collateral lines to my direct line of BECKWITH. Oftentimes, we get so involved with the search of our direct ancestors, we forget about the possible connections with our collateral lines and the info those connections can afford us. Each of the above surnames married into the BECKWITH line in St Joseph Co., MI with a range of marriage dates from 1835-1853. Levi BECKWITH, Sr. and Lucinda STARKWEATHER had 10 children: Sidney BECKWITH/Mehetable HUNT, Albert BECKWITH/ Rosannah POLAND, Orson S. BECKWITH/Louisa Jane SCOTT, Eliza BECKWITH/George PRIEST, Polina BECKWITH/Peter SIXBEY + George BURROUGHS, Lucinda BECKWITH/Henry Edwin ROOT, Rhoda BECKWITH/Augustus VanSchaak DODD, Lydia BECKWITH/James M. HUTCHISON, Levi BECKWITH, JR./Lucy R. MARKHAM and Rodney BECKWITH/Eliza Ann ROTE. Are you connected with one of these names from the St Joseph Co., MI area? When you post your query, be sure to change the SUBJECT line to the "surnames" you're researching. I have information about John MACHIN and his descendants. I just sent a private email with more details to Heidi. Elizabeth GIRTON married William MACHIN May 15, 1838 in Lincolnshire, England. Their *son* John MACHIN was born October 7, 1842 in Lincolnshire, England. This family arrived in St. Joseph County in 1851, along with three younger children. John MACHIN married Mary E. ARNEY in St. Joseph County and farmed in Sherman Township before moving to Russell County, Kansas sometime between 1872 and 1886. Elizabeth (GIRTON) (died March 17, 1895, age 82 years, 2 months, 23 days) and William MACHIN (died February 23, 1871) are buried in Peek Cemetery on Constantine Road in Florence Township. Buried next to them are John GIRTON (died August 27, 1855, age 77 years) and John GIRTON, JR. (died August 22, 1851, age 32 years). I guessed from this that the two Johns are brother and father to Elizabeth, but don't have proof of this yet. I just visited the Three Rivers Library Michigan Room on July 5. The three volumes of "Cemeteries of St. Joseph County, Michigan" so kindly compiled by the St. Joseph County Genealogical Society directed me to Peek Cemetery, where I photographed the tombstones.
