He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1948. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and he served on the USS Midway. He was employed as a serviceman for Commonwealth Gas Company. He was a member of the Wayne Hills Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Lois (WIMER) EBERHARD; one son, Rick Eugene EBERHARD, Stuarts Draft; one brother, Donald EBERHARD, Colon, Mich.; two sisters, Dorothy GEORGE, Longview, Texas, and Lois WOLF, Modesto, Calif.; two grandchildren, Candice and Derek EBERHARD; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Jan. 12 at the Wayne Hills Baptist church with the Revs. Phillip H. Hunt and Warren L. Grant officiating. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Howard (Phyllis) HARVEY, Mesick; two brothers, Richard D. EBERHARD, Mesick and Robert E. EBERHARD, Brentwood, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Clifford EBERHARD, in 1984. There will be no visitation or services. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date in Yuma Cemetery, Wexford County. Arrangements were handled by the Schipper Funeral Home, Colon. END

He had served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Neuman-Wenzel Post 73 American Legion. Surviving are one son, Anthony EBERHARD, San Diego, Calif.; one daughter Judy EBERHARD, Coronado, Calif.; two sisters, Jeane HART, Sturgis, and Helen BOALS, Constantine; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maxine DELL and Dorothy BUYS; and two brothers, Jack EBERHARD and Harvey EBERHARD. There will be no visitation. Cremation had taken place. Memorial graveside services and burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Sturgis, with the Rev. James Pearl, Holy Angels Catholic Church, officiating. Full military rites will be conferred by the Captain John J. Kelley Post 1355 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Arrangements were handled by the Foglesong Funeral Home, Sturgis. Memorials may be directed to the Leukemia Society of American. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. END

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Kathryn) HOLT of Plymouth; one son, Herman of Benton, Ark.; two half-sisters, Mrs. George (Aletha) KRAMER of Burkburnett, Tex.; and Mrs. Dorothy BERNE of Jackson; two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was born Sept.5, 1908, in Sturgis, a son of the late Ora and Sarah Ann (DRAKE) EBERHARD. On Feb. 14, 1942, he married Mildred P. KUHLMAN in Sturgis. She died April 1, 1978. He had lived most of his life in Sturgis and for the last seven years in Battle Creek. He had served 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. After his retirement, he was employed as a security officer at the Michigan City, Ind., Prison and also worked at the Jane A. Sturgis Memorial Home, Sturgis, and the Sturges-Young Auditorium. He was a member of the Sturgis First Presbyterian Church, Sturgis Knights of Pythias Phoenix Lodge 171, Potomac Lodge 782 Free and Accepted Masons of Potomic, Ill., the Captain John Kelley Post 1355 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Rosco (Joy) MESSER, Crab Orchard, Ky.; one son, Al KUHLMAN, Sturgis; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Violet CAMERON and Marjorie COOKE, both of Battle Creek; one half-sister, Mrs. Charles ROSE, Traverse City; one brother, Russell EBERHARD, Battle Creek; and one niece and two nephews. Relatives and friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the Foglesong Funeral Home, Sturgis, where the Knights of Pythias Phoenix Lodge 171 will hold memorial services at 7 p.m. Sunday. Services are at 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Loren M. Scribner, First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, with full military rites being conferred by the Captain John J. Kelley Post 1355 VFW. Memorials may be directed to the Knights of Pythias Phoenix Lodge 171. They moved to Colon from Battle Creek 18 years ago. She died in March of 1966. Mr. EBERHARD had worked for the New York Central Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1950. He was a member of the Colon Church of God and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 299, in Battle Creek. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Lesta) JOHNSON and Mrs. Donald (Genevieve) SAXMAN of Battle Creek, and Mrs. Norman (Alta) REULE of Seattle, Wash.; two sons, Estus of Augusta, and Lester (Sam) of Battle Creek; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Three sons, one daughter and one grandson preceded him in death. Friends may call at the Schipper Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. L.E. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bob (Rachel) BURT, Battle Creek, and Mrs. Edward (Sarah) HAHN, Sturgis; six sons, Robert EATON, Otsego, Harlie EATON, Chicago, Ill., Wayne EATON, Phoenix, Ariz., Elmer EATON, Three Rivers, Carl EATON and Harry EATON, both of Sturgis; 27 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one brother, one step-sister and three step-brothers. Relatives and friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the Foglesong Funeral Home, Sturgis, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday. Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sturgis First Church of God, with the Revs. Jack Eitelbuss, Colon Church of God and Leonard Steininger officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. On Nov. 12, 1921, she was married to Arthur EATON, in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 1943. She attended the Nottawa Methodist Church and was a former member of the Nottawa Woman’s Club. Surviving are one granddaughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) PERSONS, Rt. 1, Burr Oak; one step-daughter, Mrs. John (Slyvia) BUMAN, of Minneapolis, Minn.; an uncle, Bert FRARY, of Los Angeles, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Rexrode Funeral Home in Centreville. The Rev. Kenneth Snow, pastor of the Nottawa and Centreville Methodist Churches, will officiate. He also has worked as a correction officer at the Probation Center, Three Rivers, and at Myrtle House, Sturgis. He attended the Sturgis Wesleyan Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany from 1956-58 and he had earned the rank of private first class. He had served as secretary of the Sherman Township Zoning Board 20 years and had served as chairman of the Sherman Township Appeals Board many years. He attended Glen Oaks Community College, Centreville, to become a corrections officer. He enjoyed bowling, yard work and bridge. He and his wife had served as host parents for two foreign exchange students. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Rebecca) FARR III, Centreville, and Mrs. Richard (Stacy) ULERY, Goshen, Ind.; one son, Kenneth EATON, Sturgis; two grandsons, Nicholas DAVIS and Raymond FARR IV; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Rachel) BURT, Battle Creek, and Mrs. Edward (Sarah) HAHN, Sturgis; five brothers, Robert EATON, Otsego, Harlie EATON, Chicago, Ill., Carl EATON, Sturgis, Wayne EATON, Phoenix, Ariz., and Elmer EATON, Three Rivers; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister. She was a member of the Urbandale Baptist Church and Mottville Community Church. She was a lifelong Battle Creek resident except the past five years when she lived with her daughter in White Pigeon. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and being with her family. Surviving are three sons, James and Michael EATHERTON, both of Battle Creek, and Michael BLAKE, Kansas City, Kan.; one daughter, Deborah FRAME, White Pigeon; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Betty KING, St. Anns, Mo., Carolyn TUNER and Marita IRVING, who was raised by Mrs. EATHERTON and her husband, both of Battle Creek. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Winfred, Leon and Elmo SULT.
