Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Brent (Sue) LAMBRIGHT of Topeka, and Mrs. David (Sara) WEEKS and Karen EDWARDS, both of Albion; two sons, Jon of Wawaka and Fred of Kimmell; a brother, Edward of Albion; a sister, Beth YOUNG of Albion and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Brazzel Funeral Home in Albion with the Rev. F. Franklin Orr officiating. Calling hours were held Monday in the Orr Funeral Home in Ligonier. Burial was in Sparta Cemetery. Preferred memorials are to the Noble County Cancer Society. END

She was preceded in death by one son, Donald EDWARDS, in 1982. Private family services were held at the Edwards home. Arrangements were handled by the Putnam Funeral Home, Union City. END

He had been employed at the Sturgis Foundry, B&W Tavern, Ken Perry Excavating and Formed Tubes, all of Sturgis, and Burr Oak Tool and Die, Burr Oak. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Captain John J. Kelley Post 1355 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife; three step-daughters, Mrs. James (Cheryl) JOURDAN and Jennie LYTLE, both of Sturgis, and Mrs. Frank (Susan) COWAN, Kentucky; four step-sons, Norris CARNEY, Virginia, Larry MILLER, Indiana, Ronald MILLER and Douglas MILLER, both of Sturgis; 13 step-grandchildren; two brothers, Glen EDWARDS, Plainwell, and Charles EDWARDS< Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Sarah TRUMAN, Three Rivers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Walter D. EDWARDS, Oct. 30, 1987, and John EDWARDS. Relatives and friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the Foglesong Funeral Home, Sturgis, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Wilson, assistant pastor of the Sturgis Missionary Church, officiating. He and his wife also owned and operated the Wither Fishing Camp on the St. Joseph River since 1949. Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. David (Lorraine)PASHBY, Fort Worth, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Pennie EDINGER, Sturgis and Larry and Carol EDINGER, Paw Paw; several children to whom they opened their home; five grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce. Friends and relatives may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Eley Funeral Home, Constantine, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Constantine United Methodist Church with Rev. In 1936, she married Maurice L. KANE. He died in 1941. She later married James D. EDGETT. He died in 1992. She graduated from Colon High School and received an associates degree from Augubright College, Battle Creek. She worked 35 years for Dr. Bronson and Dr. Sheldon in their medical office in Sturgis. She was a member of the Port Charlotte Pilgrim United Church of Christ and the Ladies Auxiliary Shriners Club, Port Charlotte, and a past matron of the Colon Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 91. During her early life, she lived in Colon, later moving to Sturgis, to Punta Gorda in 1983, and to Port Charlotte in 1992. Surviving are her children, James and Barbara EDGETT, Colon and Punta Gorda, and Richard and Kathy KANE, Greatfall, Va.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Dr. Hugh G. GODFREY. Memorial services were at 2 p.m. May 13, 1995, at the South Port Square Town Hall, Port Charlotte. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Colon. Burial of the cremains will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Colon. Local arrangements were handled by the Schipper Funeral Home, Colon. Memorials may be directed to the Sturgis First United Methodist Church of the charity of one’s choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. END

She was preceded in death by one infant brother, Ronald FREUND. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Geisler-Eley Funeral Home, Constantine. He was a member of St. Gaspar’s Catholic Church in Rome City, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Sebring, Fla., and Elks Club in Lake Palcid, Fla. He was married in Albion September 13, 1981, to Cora Mae CASHMORE, who survives. Also surviving are a sister, Eunice LEITCH of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; a nephew, Thomas MASSMAN of Thousand Oaks; six step-children, 14 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. A sister, Mildred MASSMAN, preceded him in death. A memorial service was held Saturday at 5 p.m. in St. Gaspar Catholic Church in Rome City. On July 8, 1950, he married Wava CROTSER, in Mendon. He graduated from Mendon High School in 1941 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was a former Prisoner of War. After his marriage, he and his wife lived in Mendon, later moving to Burr Oak. He was a Sturgis resident the past four years. He was self employed in the plumbing and heating business several years and he also worked 21 years as a tool and die machine repairman at Doerr Products, Burr Oak. Surviving are his wife; four sons, Mark ECKERT, Milwaukee, Wis., Phil ECKERT, Burr Oak, Tom ECKERT and Dan ECKERT, both of Sturgis; two daughters, Julia ECKERT and Debbie ECKERT, both of Sturgis. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth CRANDALL. Services were at 1 p.m. today at the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. John Shoup officiating. Military committal was by the Snow-Hasbrouck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4898, Mendon, in Burr Oak Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Eickhoff Funeral Home, Mendon. Memorials may be directed to the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene Building Fund or the charity of one’s choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. END

ECKERT, 88, well-known commercial and residential construction contractor in earlier years, died at 7:35 p.m. Friday in the Sturgis Hospital where he had been admitted Jan. 9. He had suffered apoplexy in his home at 305 S. Lakeview Ave. His basic trade was that of a brick layer and stone cutter. He was born at Allegan, Mich., Nov. 23, 1882, a son of Michael and Caroline (MEARWALD) ECKERT. His marriage to Martha PUESCHEL took place at Otsego, Mich., Aug. 5, 1908. She preceded him in death Jan. 22, 1950. Mr. ECKERT had been a Sturgis and Burr Oak resident for 65 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and had served as president and a member of the Church Council for many years. Surviving are three sons, Carl ECKERT of near Burr Oak, Albert ECKER (sic) of Ypsilanti, and the Rev. Gearhart ECKERT of Hastings, Neb.; two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Brunhilde) SCHMIDT, of Sturgis and Mrs. Herbert (Martha) KAAS of Detroit; his brother, Herman ECKERT of Albion; two sisters, Mrs. Lydia SCHWEDER of Colon and Mrs. Eda SCHROEDER of Sturgis; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, one sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Services will be observed at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Johns Lutheran Church with the pastor, the Rev. F.C. Knueppel officiating. Interment will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Foglesong Funeral Home until Tuesday noon. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorials to St. Johns Lutheran Church. END
