ELDRIDGE, 81, 60571 Lennon Road, died Dec. 18, 1992, at his home following a year long illness. He was born Aug. 15, 1911 in Bristol, Ind., a son of Charles B. and Cora (TEASDALE) ELDRIDGE. On Feb. 28, 1946, he married Betty (WHEELER) LAWS, in Chicago, Ill. He had lived in the Sturgis area most of her life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was employed by Sturgis Posture Chair for more than 25 years and later he retired as a carpenter from the Shumaker Company, Sturgis. He was an avid baseball player, participating with several commercial teams and he was invited to try out with the New York Yankees. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife; one son, Air Force Sgt. Stanley ELDRIDGE Jr., Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Cherie BORO, Omaha, Neb., and Sharon ELDRIDGE, Elkhart, Ind.; a grandson, Cpl. Michael A. ELDRIDGE, U.S.M.C., Japan; one step-daughter, Carol Ann JACKSON, Lakewood, Calif.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Manley ELDRIDGE; his parents and four sisters, Elsie SMITH, Inez BORGERT, Mae HILLER and Sarah BURMEISTER. Cremation has taken place. There will be no services or visitation. A private committal will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Society, the Health Department Hospice or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements were handled by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon. END

She had lived in the Burr Oak and Colon areas until her marriage to Warren ELDRIDGE in 1919. They moved to Three Rivers at that time. Surviving are the husband; two sons, Clifford of Rochester, Mich., and Warren Jr., of Colon; four grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lottie BALDWIN of Burr Oak; and a brother, Clifford MAYSTEAD of Three Rivers. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, in the Wolf Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Eugene Moore, pastor of the Ninth Street United Methodist Church, officiating. On June 21, 1919, he married Vera L. SPROWL, in Centreville. She died in 1986. He was a Sturgis resident since 1915, coming from Bristol. He was an expert reed worker employed at the Go-Cart Company, Sturgis. He later was employed as a pressman for Sturgis Register until his retirement. After he retired, worked a few years at Burr Oak Tool and Gage. He was a baseball player and enjoyed sports, including hunting and fishing. Surviving are one son, Eugene E. ELDRIDGE, Sturgis; four grandchildren, Stephen ELDRIDGE, Jayne HENRICKS and James ELDRIDGE, all of Sturgis, and Dr. E. John E. ELDRIDGE, Kenosha, Wis.; five great-grandchildren; one brothers, Stanley ELDRIDGE, Nottawa; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Marvin L. ELDRIDGE, in January 1981; and four sisters. Relatives and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the Rosenberg-Schipper Funeral Home, Sturgis, where services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Burgess, First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Sturgis. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association. ELDRIDGE, 95, who had owned the former Sturgis Times Democrat paper in Sturgis, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday in the Froh Brothers Homestead, where he had been admitted on Nov. 21, when his condition became critical. Mr. ELDRIDGE had a history of long public service that began as a school teacher, and , while he was still a young man, he launched a newspaper career that started with his news edition known as known as the Middlebury (Ind.) Independent. Later he came to Sturgis when he brought the Times-Democrat from the late Judge John S. Flanders. This paper was later to be merged with what is now the Sturgis Daily Journal after its purchase from Ralph Boyden by Mark P. Haines. Mr. ELDRIDGE’S last newspaper interest was in LaGrange, where he published the paper there for a number of years. He had also been the LaGrange postmaster for eight years. Before returning to Sturgis 10 years ago, Mr. ELDRIDGE had lived at Manty-Glo, Pa., for 30 years. He was born at Middlebury, Ind., July 2, 1872, a son of Walter W. and Maria (SHOUP) ELDRIDGE. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and was affiliated fraternally with the Oddfellows as a life member of Phoenix Lodge No. 171, Knights of Pythias. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Victoria) COMINATOR of near Sturgis and Mrs. Constance RAHN of Elkhart, Ind.; his brother, Fred, Middlebury; two sisters, Mrs. Annie THOMAS, also of Middlebury, and Mrs. Fred O. (Mable) YODER of Goshen, Ind.; two grandsons, Verne RAHN of Elkhart and Clyde COMINATOR of Three Rivers; nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Foglesong Funeral Home, where the service is to be observed at 1:30 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Charles Hahn, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Grove Cemetery at Middlebury, Ind. Members of the Knights of Pythias Lodge will confer funeral honors in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Thursday. END

She also had been employed at Fairview Medical Care Facility, and was a volunteer at the Sturgis Hospital. Surviving are one daughter, Carol Ann (Brock) JACKSON, Lakewood, Calif.; one son, Msgt Stanley ELDRIDGE Jr. (Lourdes, Okinawa, Japan; four grandchildren, Michael (Kendra) ELDRIDGE, Johnathan DAVIS, Stephanie ELDRIDGE and Sarah ELDRIDGE; and one sister, Phyllis (Ward) HART, Sturgis. She was born March 20, 1901, in Fort Wayne, Ind., a daughter of William and Johanna (GEVERS) SCHAEFER. On May 17, 1923, she married Clyde D. EICHOLTZ. He died May 29, 1968. She had resided in St. Joseph County since she was 16 years old and had resided at her current address the past 45 years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed flower gardening. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Colon, and an honorary member of the St. Joseph County Horsemen’s Association. Surviving are four sons, C. Donald EICHOLTZ, Three Rivers, Richard EICHOLTZ, Chandler, Ariz., Irven EICHOLTZ, Vicksburg and Billie EICHOLTZ, Mendon; four daughters, Arlene EICHOLTZ, Darlene ROCHO, Mendon, Mrs. Donald (Doris) FITCH, Three Rivers, and Mrs. Mitchell (Lois) CRIPPS; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one brother, Herbert SCHAEFER, Fort Wayne, Ind., and one sister, Frieda DOAN, Columbia City, Ind. She was preceded in death by one grandson and one brother, Frederick SCHAEFER. Relatives and friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Eickhoff Funeral Home, Mendon, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Terry G. Keefer, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Moorepark Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice. END

Main St., died April 18, 1994, in Panama City Beach, Fla., where she had wintered the past several years. She was born Feb. 23, 1921,in Pontiac, a daughter of Albert Glen and Veronica Ethel (FLYNN) MYERS. On Sept. 13, 1941, she married Harry B. EICKHOFF, in Lowell. She and her family moved to Lowell where she graduated from high school in 1939. She later attended Davenport College, Grand Rapids. She and her husband moved to Mendon in 1947 and together they established the Eickhoff Funeral Home. They later owned a hardware store in Mendon and in 1969 established the Mendon Ambulance Service. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, the Altar Society, the GFWC Mendon Women’s Club and the Mendon Bridge Club. She was involved in numerous community activities. Surviving are her husband; children, Mrs. Kenneth (Sue Ellen) SCHERER, Mount Clemens, Lynn Marie EICKHOFF, Holland, Jon and Sue EICKHOFF, Vicksburg, Marty and Connie EICKHOFF, Rick and Susan EICKHOFF and Dale and Vicki EICKHOFF, all of Mendon, and Tom and Lisa EICKHOFF, Fenton; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Ed MYERS; four sisters, Ethel VANDER WARF, Elizabeth STUKKIE, Evelyn ROUDABUSH and Mrs. Foster (Flora) BISHOP, all of the Lowell-Ada area; and one sister-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Roy (Bud) MYERS. Relatives and friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home, Mendon, where a Rosary Service is at 7 p.m. Friday. The Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, Mendon. Burial will follow in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice or for memorial Mass offerings. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. END

EICKHOFF, 77, 325 W. Main St., died May 6, 1996, at the Three Rivers Area Hospital, following a long illness. He was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Marne, a son of Martin and Lena (RUESSER) EICKHOFF. On Sept. 13, 1941, he married Margaret MYERS, in Lowell. She died April 18, 1994. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1934 and from Worsham Mortuary School in 1939. He served with the U.S. Army’s 42nd Rainbow Division in the European Theater during World War II. He and his wife moved to Mendon in 1947 and established the Eickhoff Funeral Home. He has been a member of the Michigan and National Funeral Directors Associations the past 57 years. He also was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, Mendon, and had served on the church board and cemetery committee. He also had served on the Mendon Fire Department, the Mendon Township Library Board, the Mendon Village Council and St. Joseph County Parks and Recreation Commission, the St. Joseph County Emergency Services Council, as Mendon Village President in the 1950s, and he was the charter secretary and past president of the Mendon Kiwanis Club. He also had owned and operated a Standard Oil Station, Mendon, form 1954-61; a hardware store from 1965-80; and established the Mendon Ambulance Service in! 1969. His favorite activities included the construction of many stone walls along the bank of the St. Joe River, deer hunting with his closest friends at Lake City, card games (especially pinochle), and bird watching. Surviving are seven children, Sue Ellen (Ken) SCHERER, Mount Clemens, Jon (Sue) EICKHOFF, Vicksburg, Martin (Connie) EICKHOFF, Rick (Susan) EICKHOFF, Dale (Vicki) EICKHOFF, all of Mendon, Tom (Lisa) EICKHOFF, Fenton, and Lynn Marie EICKHOFF, Holland; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Irma RICHMOND, Ruby CHRISTIANSEN, Josephine WILLARD and Marie (Bob) STEWARD, all of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Erhart and Harvey; and two sisters, Roxie SULLIVAN and Thelma ROTH. Relatives and friends may call from 3-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. 9 p.m. Thursday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home, Mendon, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday. The funeral mass is at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church, Mendon, with the Rev. Joseph Thachet officiating. Burial will be in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery with full military rites being conferred by the Snow-Hasbrouck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4898, Mendon. Memorials may be directed to the St. Edward Catholic Church for masses, to Reed River Park for tree benches, or to the Three Rivers Area Hospital Auxiliary for equipment. EICHORN, 70, 365 Findley Rd., Nottawa Township, died Saturday afternoon in Sturgis Hospital, where he was admitted Friday evening. He was born in Kalona, Iowa, Dec. 26, 1902, a son of Lewis and Mary (RUTZLOFF) EICHORN. Mr. EICHORN had lived in Michigan the past 28 years, coming from New York. He was married to Ida TROYER in October of 1921, in Oklahoma. Mr. EICHORN had been a farmer, and, upon his retirement, was employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the Locust Grove Mennonite Church where he was active as a Visiting Brother, Sunday School teacher and coordinator of the Mennonite Disaster Service. Surviving are his widow; four sons, Arthur, Lewis C. and Paul EICHORN, all of Sturgis, and Floyd EICHORN, Three Rivers; four daughters, Mrs. Marcus (Esther) CARPENTER, Burr Oak; Mrs. Leonard (Wilma) BECK, Archbald, Ohio; Mrs. Henry (Pauline) SCHWARTZ, Centreville, and Mrs. Bill (Faye) KERSCHNER, Sturgis; 35 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four half brothers, Enoch, New York; Herman, California; Paul, Paraguay; and Mark, Ohio; four sisters, Mrs. George (Mary) FERGUSON, Florida; Mrs. Ezra (Edna) SCHROCK, both of Florida; Mrs. Elma SWARTZTRUBER and Mrs. Wilma GINGERICK, both of Turner, Mich.; two half sisters, Mrs. Henry (Clara) STEELE and Salome SAVER, both of New York; one step-brother, Ernest BENDER, Nappanee, Ind.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. One son, Edwin, a brother, Arthur, two grandchildren and one great-grandson preceded him in death. Friends may call at the Foglesong Funeral Home until noon Tuesday. The body will be taken to the Locust Grove Mennonite Church in Findley where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with Dr. Dean Brubaker officiating. Interment will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Mennonite Disaster Service at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church. END

She was born April 16, 1888. She was married on May 17, 1917, to John P. EICHER. He died April 17, 1972. Mrs. EICHER was a former Burr Oak resident. Surviving are five daughters; Mrs. Walter (Caroline) MYERS and Lavinia EICHER, both of Huntertown; Mrs. Jack (Anna) LOWE and Mrs. George (Ruth) BLEZINGER, both of Tucson, Ariz.; and Mrs. Nelson (Katherine) PAULUS, Gold Hill, Ore.; three sons, Daniel, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Jack and Abe, both of California; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Anna NEUENSCHWANDER, Berne, Ind.; and one brother, Abe, also of Berne. Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Leo Mennonite Church in Leo, Ind., with the Rev. Earl Hartman officiating. Burial will take place in Berne. The body is at the Baitinger and Walter Funeral Home at Spencerville, Ind., where friends may call. END
