THIS IS MY 'BRICK WALL/DEAD END\NO SHOW ANCESTORS LINE...' I've been reading everyone's brickwall stories, and mine is my Great Grandfather EDWARD LAESSIG and his travel companion--perhaps brother Robert Laessig. I started recording the family history back in 1964-65, picking my father's brain, then my aunts...but no one had any information on their grandpa...so for the past 36-37 years I have been searching for that elusive connection to my past. Here is what I have so far. (I started searching for Robert having exhausted everything I could think of looking for EDWARD...) I am searching for the ancestry and descendants of Robert Laessig, his birthplace, and trying to find out if the Robert Laessigs that I have found in these records (listed below) could be the Robert Laessig that came to America with my great grandfather Edward Laessig, arriving 1 Sept. 1855. Edward was 21 *born 5 July 1835; Robert 24 *born circa 1832. They traveled on the ship "Orpheus" from Bremen to New York. Edward settled in Chicago. Until I found Robert on the ship's manifest, I did not know he accompanied Edward to America, so have now begun searching for the place Robert settled and his decendants. In the 1890 census of St.Louis, a Robert Laessig is listed as a carpenter, living at r.2034 Madison and Clemens H. is listed as a bookkeeper for Goebel & Wetterau, address at 2611A Madison. Hopefully I will learn something from them!!! :0] --------------------------- There is a record for Robert Laessig as follows: Robert LAESSIG Sex: M Spouse: Anna LAESSIG Marriage: 16 June 1873 Saint Louis, St Louis, Missouri Here is a possible child of Robert & Anna? Arthur E. LAESSIG Sex: M Spouse: Mae JOHNSON Marriage: 23 Nov 1892 St Louis, Missouri [I checked out the LDS film, and this is all that it had...these marriages...no further information :0[) ------------------------------- Robert LAESSIG Spouse: Anna REINHOLD Marriage: 04 Dec 1864 St. Louis, Missouri ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have found that Anna Reinhold had a "Mrs." in front of her name when she married Robert... so she was most likely a widow. She may have a maiden name then, Reinhold being her first husband's name? I have recently found the relatives that indeed did move from Wisconsin to Missouri and they were my FISCHBACHs/WAGNERs...William FISCHBACH relocated to St Louis, MO. having come to America with his parents Domenick and Mary WAGNER FISCHBACH. The family emigrated from Luxembourg through Antwerp in 1852 and landed in NY 12-1-1852 aboard the three-masted bark Lucia Field. The WAGNERs, SCHERMANs, and LAESSIGs are all connected and I knew they had relatives in Missouri... and gradually have been finding the names there.... but have not found a descendant or researcher of same... :0[ (sad). I appreciate all the suggestions from the list from time to time, and try to follow up on the suggestions to the best of my ability. I'm new to computer genealogy, and struggle with geography/locations. Good Luck to all of you!!! Patti Laessig at [email protected]
