    2. Candice: Not sure what the A.S.N. stands for The 8 digit # is probably his serial number Date January 11, 1943 is probably the day he entered active duty. This sounds like it was a commecial ID Braclet, they were quite popular during the war. However, if it were a military braclet it would have read 11 Jan 1943. The dogtags are sort of standard what you usually will see on them is T44 (The last time he had a Tetnus Shot), this wasn't always kept up to date. I think in 20 years I only had two differnt sets), whereas I got tetnus shots every time I turned around. His Serial Number Religious Preference "C" Catholic, "P" Protestant, "J" or "H" Jewish I am not sure which was used At one time the "A" Following a Serial Number indicated that the individual was "Regular Army" vice "Reserve". I am sure others will be able to be a bit more accurate. Bill What do these mean and how do I find out more information about when he joined etc.? Thank you very much-Candace ______________________________ Some Data on cemeteries and funeral homes <http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/buchholz.htm> Surnames of Interest: BUCHHOLZ anywhere -BECKMANN-CASSIDY-DeL0NJAY-DREES-NENTWIG-NEUTZLER-PONCOT-RENSING-STAUDER- STIEFFERMANN

    3. Candice and Bill, A.S.N. is the acronym for Army Serial Number. It's fine for an ID bracelet but isn't/wasn't used on dog tags. The 8 digit number is indeed the enlisted serial number. Officers SNs were different and shorter. I can't imagine what the letter A after the SN could be for. I never saw an ASN like that and I worked with enlisted military personnel records for a while. You're right about the dates and the tetanus shots.
