I am searching for more information about a flood that hit the Neoshu area in Sept 1875. My second great aunt Miranda Ruth Sharp wrote a letter to my great grandfather Edward Fenimore telling him that a cousin, John Sharp) from the Neoshu area had moved to a near by town in Oregon. In the letter Ruth wrote that before around the 4th and 6th of September 1875 (the day of birth for Edward and John) they were born under peculiar circumstances. Shoul and Hickory creeks overflowed their banks by a half mile and a foot or two over the roof of the home. The water rose so fast the family had to go to an upstairs room, the house then began to move off of the foundation and moved over against a large oak tree. Hamilton Sharp took an axe, cut a hole out to the roof. The family all climbed into the tree and remained there until a skiff came by and rescued the family. No loss of life in our family and minor injuries to Alice's jaw, and Sterling Price Sharp became quite sick. Any further information about the flood will appreciated. Martin Fenimore Castle Rock, WA

Jesse Bridges had a wife named Mary on the 1856 Montgomery Co., Iowa Census. In June of 1858, Jesse (of Adams Co., Iowa) remarried in Nodaway Co., MO. This means that Mary died 1856-1858 in Montgomery, Adams or Nodaway. I need a death date and cemetery record for Mary Bridges. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Jim . . . James R. I am a descendant of the Brower's that came from Duthchess Co., NY about 1830 to Missouri. 4 brothers came together and settled there. John Abraham Brower, Chancellor L. , Lawyer and my ancestor Jeremiah Brower. The 1850 census of Scyuler Co. shows both Jeremiah and wife Nancy and family living in there as well as John Abraham and wife Susan and family. I have extensive files on all of these brothers. In 1882 a very large group of these men's descendants migrated to Oregon via the Oregon Trail lead by Dr. Jeremiah Brower's widow Nancy. From that large group they then slowly made way to Washington and settled and are there until today in big numbers. If you are tracking Brower's in Missouri, then you are most likely related to me. Please write and I can share my files with you. Lillian Kathleen Martin

I have not been keeping up with all this ROLL CALL bit but I suspect what most people were looking for was the above subject. In other words the surname date and location if known. No you don't have to put all the surnames in the subject block. perhaps several like I do if looking for several or more. If you put roll call in subject block only. Then you have no idea of who's being looked for until you open the msg. That is what makes people mad. Wow what a stink the "ole" rollcall word causes, lol. I have no counties or looking for TURNERS in Mo Stan Born in Missouri live in Tennessee
Wow what a stink the "ole" rollcall word causes, lol. I have no counties or dates to add that are definite. I have my good old gr grand daddy Smith R.Turner, Sr's name. On the Calif 1900 census it says he was b. in Mo, Dec 1824 and that he resides at the Old Soldiers Home in Los Angeles. He was buried at the Los Angeles Memorial Cemetery and his marker reads: Turner, Smith R, d. 08/03/1902, G 3RD MISSOURI INF, Plot: 7 12/B, * The Mo archives sent me a copy of a card for a Smith R Turner who served in the Mexican war. So, if anyone has a Mo Turner with some combination of those initials (S, R, Smith or something close to that) and fall somewhere inbetween 1820's and 1850's please contact me. Otherwise if I haven't been deleted already here is your chance. Thanks, Bobbi Turner Capello

I agree with the list administrator. I don't usually write when this sort of thing is going on, but just as an added explanation to newcomers, I want to give an example. I was gone for four days this weekend, and I have over 200 messages waiting for me. I have a full time job and a busy life. I will be deleting everything without a surname which interests me. I just don't have time to read them all. Please, when you're posting, keep surnames, dates and locations in mind. It helps so much and keeps all the clutter off the list. I’ve been told by relatives that a large number of very old Probate Court records were found in the clock tower of the Vernon County Courthouse in Nevada, Mo. They go back at least to the 1870’s, if not farther. The county was going to discard them, but the Historical Society asked for them and received them. They stored them on the third floor of the new Library/Museum. Schoolchildren have volunteered to do some of the work in “sorting them out”, but that isn’t enough. I’M TOLD THAT THEY NEED MONEY FOR THE PROJECT. The organization is: Vernon County Historical Society 231 North Main Street Nevada, MO 64772 If you wish to contact them or learn more about them, their website is: http://www.bushwhacker.org/ Note: I have no connection to the Society and they aren’t even aware of this message. I’m just interested in seeing those records preserved and made available to the public. James R. Baker, Jr. jrbakerjr@yahoo.com .
