I agree, folks here are very welcoming and helpful. Other good lists I am on are Yorksgen (Yorkshire, England), and my all time favorite, The ARMSTRONG list. Regarding Ancestry.com, do they have the 1901 Missouri census available? Or does anyone if the LDS Family History Centers have it? I am looking for the family of Frances LOWE, born March 18, 1893 somewhere in Missouri. Mother's maiden name was BRYANT. That's all I know. Also, the Missouri Bureau of Vital records said I could pay $10.00 for a 5 year search of their files for births prior to the standard records that begin in 1910. They say they have 600,000 files on record for births between 1860 and 1910. Has anyone ever used this service? If so, I'd be interested in the results. I think its great!! I have had it for two years and found a great deal of information. If you have been doing research for years you probably won't find a lot of "new" information but for someone just getting started it's great. Most of what I have found could have been found in other ways but I feel by the time I paid postage and copying fees it would have cost me a lot more both in money and time. Some states don't have as much information as others either so this may be a factor. The new census images are great, I already have copies of 6 families just from the 1920 census in Missouri, haven't even started on the other states yet, so if I had to buy, rent or send for these.... By the way I have AOL and have not had any problems, part of the loading time depends on your computer and part on the server I believe.
There seems to be some confusion about the address to the new Brown list I have started the EMAIL address is: [email protected] type subscribe in the body This will work, Marge Brown if you have any questions please contact me [email protected]
What cd's .. I never did get any .. totally forgot about that . I am on aol and have tried out the census . It takes at least a min for my cpu to bring up each page of census . So in between each page I do other things so as not to go nuts waiting lol......... stilll its better than driving down towm .

I am in my second year but will probably not subscribe again. When I subscribed to the Premium status, I was told about all of the freebies that came with it but when I asked if the CD's could be used with my IMac--sorry!! I wrote to Ancestry.com and had a form letter thanking me for my comments but nothing further. In fact, when I asked if the CD's that came with my membership were available for a Mac I was told by the telephone salesman that I could give them to a friend who had a PC. >From what I have been able to get from the on-line census information, if one is on AOL there may be some difficulty reading the census. I will probably not subscribe for a third year. I like AOL and love my IMac-- Betty in Texas

I have been a member for two years and have yet to break thru the "wall" with the use of Ancestory. I did have to go to another "pay" service to locate my ggfather/family in IL in the 1870 census. I have a copy of the census page from the 1870 E St Louis but Ancestory does not have it in their data files, I contacted them to see if there is a reason and they gave me a standard answer -this is the only data we have. I question my search results for other years/states from Ancestory if they can't find a record that I now have a copy of . Good Luck Join if you will but I would wait for the "free" months and work like mad to get all the data you can dig up for free. Joseph Dopson [email protected]
Hello Everyone, Is there anyone out there who knows what the bounty land warrants are? One of my ancestors, a veteran of the Mexican American War, applied for one about 1848. Can anyone tell me what I should to find in a bounty land warrant file or what you received in your file request fom the National Archives? I appreciate any information you might have. Thank you. Doris
Thank you for the spread sheet. How kind of you to share your hard work with us. Robbie in LA
