I heard that Rootsweb is going to be down, starting Friday and all weekend, maybe into Monday. It could be starting real soon, in some areas. They are working on their servers. Janice Y. James Albert Dwyer, b:?, early 1800's, movd to IA. m: Eliz. Chown Looking for parents of Paul Leroy Shriver, near Hannibal, b: early 1900's, possibly a little town named Springfield.
I am looking for ANYONE who can help me with my fathers line. There is not much known about my grandfather, other than what very little my grandma will tell and what I found in his obituary. It is my hopes that someone will recognize a name and be able to help me. This is my last hope. This is what I found: Chester Thomas Madison was married to Caroline Alberta (Link). He was born July 16,1912. His parents were Joseph E. Madison and Myrtle T. Charleston (thanks to his death certificate, I was able to get his parents names!) He lived in Kansas City, Missouri his entire life. Died March 26,1982 at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus and the VFW. He has a son, Earl J. Madison, a half-brother Thomas E. Elwood, and sister Jenny McMackin, of Los Angeles. I have not been able to locate his parents on the 1920 census. I know they were in Jackson County. I did try the soundex, with no luck. I would like to contact his son, but am a little fearful in doing so, because I am not sure that he knows he has a brother and sister out there and I do not know how he would react... Any help would be appreciated :) Thank you! Most of the obits I have list the address of the funeral home after the name. Angie << Hello everyone: I have a copy of an obit for James Robert Lee JOHNSON, he died Nov 27, 1944. His funeral was from the Morton Funeral Home. This is the question. After the funeral home is mentioned is this "No. 4000" or "NO 4000. Please what does that mean? I assume that it means it was their phone number. James RL JOHNSON was David's maternal g gfather. Thank you for any help, Carole Beth Arnette >>
thanks. I assumed it was the phone number. Does anyone know if it is still there? The gentleman died before my husband was born, and I don't think David ever met or saw a picture of the wife, Nora Augusta JOHNSON. She d in 1967. Hello List: I am tracing Peter McKenna(McKinney) born 1830. By 1865 he came to Oklahoma from Missouri with a wife, Margaret McCradie, and 5 children. I know nothing about his family, parents, siblings etc. McKenna and McKinney seems to have been inter-changeable in the families, like Clark and Clarke in my own case. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Please contact me via e-mail at <[email protected]>. God Bless Richard E. Clark
In a message dated 2/15/01 8:41:37 PM, [email protected] writes: << It has been reported through 2 branches of the Daniel P. Shepherd family of Ste Gen, and Crawford Cos. MO, (Late TX and IL) that there is a connection to the James', but I can't figure where. I think there was a Shepherd that rode with them, but I have not been able to find out anything about his family. What little I have found almost led me to believe he was unmarried. Does any one know of any web sites or serious James researchers that could shed some light on these men? >> Hi Carolyn, My maiden name is Shepherd and according to my father, we were related to Jesse James or to the Shepherds that rode with him. I was too young at the time to remember which, or to care. Now trying to find my ggf, I am at a brick wall. My grandfather was Thomas A. Shepherd b. MO 1877. Checking the Phelps Co. 1910 census, he is listed with his wife and children. The only info about his parents were that they were born in the US......same as his death certificate. I have read several books about Jesse James and Quantrill, finding some detail about the Shepherds that rode with them, but nothing on the families. George Shepherd was the most famous and a Lt. in the Quantrill Raiders. He killed Jim Anderson on the state capitol lawn in Austin, Texas, in retaliation for the death of his nephew, Ike Flannery by "Bloody Bill" Anderson (Jim's brother). George was married to Matty Maddox who was also a part of Quantrill's Raiders....no info re children....don't think there were any. There were other Shepherds: Oliver (Ol), a brother or cousin of George. There has been quite a bit of info on him, including him being shot by some lawmen at his father's or brother's home. (different versions); nothing about marriage, however. The other Shepherds were: Frank, Martin and possibly an Al ( probably Ol). I have seen other Shepherd names, but of no significance. The following is a website with a list of all Quantrill Raiders. It is somewhat difficult to read but some info is given, along with books that are available. http://history.cc.ukans.edu/heritage/research/quantrill.txt Good luck; things seem to have been very hush hush re info about these desperados. Eileen Shepherd Smith PS: Thanks for the Daniel Shepherd reports.....I must check those counties.
Dear Missouri List, For those that think your family might of gone right over the border to Ottawa county, Oklahoma or that they might of commuted by trolly to Ottawa county to work, I have put up a site today that might help. The time frame is 1917-1918 and it list the wives name too. http://brittainsbookbarn.homestead.com/ With Best Regards Victoria Brittain Allen
