I'm still looking for information concerning my g grandparents. Henry Corsan WOOD and Minnie Florence TUTTLE were married on 1 Feb 1860 in Shelby County, Missouri. Anyone out there have any information on this couple. Thank-you. Bonnie/Montana [email protected]
Does anyone have a Wilhite/Wilhoite or a Maurer in MO? I know both families were there the Wilhite family in Paris, MO. The Maurer family had a son, Fredrick, born in MO in 1851. Prior to that they came in at New Orleans, LA from Bavaria. Nancy
Thanks so much to Cliff Bowlin and Rebecca Wells Olachea on this list for the Marriage Index lookup (below) in January. I just received the Social Security application for Francis Lowe, and this couple is definitely her parents! Does anyone know if marriage certificates/registration records are available for 1880 in Lawrence County? If so, how do I get a copy and what information would it contain? Marriage Index: Missouri, 1851-1900 Lowe, William Isaiah Spouse : Bryant, Mary Lucy Alice Marriage date : Nov 7, 1880 County : Lawrence Gender : Male Source : County Court Records Microfilm Number : 0930949 - 0932751 I am also interested in census records for Lawrence Co. According to Frances LOWE's SSI application, she was born in Mt. Vernon, Lawrence Co., MO on March 18, 1893. I assume that's where the family lived. They had 7 kids born between 1881 and 1902 before they left for Texas. I thought Mt. Vernon was in Virginia. Is there another Mt. Vernon in MO.? Thanks in advance to all the kind and helpful folks on this list! Linda Hamid Roseville, CA
Mary, Do you have BURNETT families in Caldwell Co in your Marriage Records? I am still trying to locate and "put together" my grandmothers family, so do not have all the first names. My understanding was they lived in the Bramer area in 1906-1907, but that could have included more than Bramer. I apologize for such a broad request. If you can help I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your time. You can use "control" and "F" to get a "Find Box" to do that, on or off line, to search for a word on a page or document. Jim James R. Hello Richard, Perhaps I can point you in the proper direction, A couple of years ago I completed a very similar exercise. It appears that Booneville is in Howard County, if you will contact the county offices there, they will be able to assist you in obtaining the plat of the county. I suggest that you determine if they have the plats for different periods. The one I received from Johnson County was a current one, with the current owners of the parcels. But I was able to find the sections that my ancestors settled on, and received patents on. If you have not already done it, I suggest that you study the history of that time and place. Things were not at all as we would visualize them. For example, as I understand it, the Land Office did not start to selling land until something like 1818, then they were outright sales. It was not until several years later that the Homestead Act was enacted, and the land could be obtained free, if certain conditions were met. I hope this helps, if I can be of further assistance - I will try to help. Frank Mesa, Arizona
Are there any Kansas City directories for all three counties, or does each county have it's own directory? Would someone please help me out on this? I have been looking for Anna M. Arthur married to Charles A. Miller. I know they lived there at least after 1910. Ages. I don't know. Anna M. Arthur could have been born about 1870 - 1890. Charles A. Miller, I would assume, in the same timeframe. Birth places of either, unknown. I have heard "rumors" Charles A. Miller's family was from KC, had a brother, and they all lived in one residence for a while. Parents and brother's name of Miller unknown. I have no idea where or when they were married. They could have been married in Kansas City. Trying to find them and descendants. Any help would be immensely appreciated. Jan, in Indiana
I do know the Kansas City Library has a good collection of early directories and the research clerk their maybe able to answer your questions. When working on the pages of this site and simular sites which do not seem to have a search feature of their own) Use the ***** EDIT>FIND IN PAGE ******** of your browser. (I am Using Netscape 4.0 and the Edit button is on the top line next to file) the feature is on the drop down menu item 5 The Find in Page file can be used to hunt for only one name at a time and I search for the surnames without using the given name to catch siblings too. I use the "find next" to browse the whole document for each name I have for that time and place. This has a few glitches such as finding names in the index that dont show up in the text. It also will help you locate JP and ministers in the family. And it keys on the parents names too if listed. This feature has shaved hours off of some detailed searches for me. Hope it will do as much for you. Happy hunting Census on line http://www.census-online.com/links/index.html Census on line Missouri page http://www.census-online.com/links/MO.html

I have a copy of a homestead filed in the Boonville, MO land office. Certificate No. 0375, Application 14157. How do I find out the location of the homestead from the description on the copy? Is there a Township 38 map? If I could find out where Section 30 in Township 38, North Range 18, West of of the 5th Principal Median in MO. I think I could handle if from there. Kathy you might want to look up the early towns of Baden and Riverside which orginally were outside St Louis and whose water plant was at the rock formation in the river for which the bridge was named. Try this link http://stlouis.missouri.org/neighborhoods/history/baden/text2.htm [email protected] wrote: > Thank you to everyone that responded to my inquiry on the Chain of Rock > Bridge. Looking for verification of James R. TABER, wife Mary/Polly, children; George, Sarah, William; 1850 census Clark CO. MO. Another son C.P. (Commodore) was born in MO in 1853. Maybe on 1860 census of Clark CO., MO. Any help would be appreciated. Betty, TX. [email protected]
Muddy is also a town in Saline County, Illinois. Big Muddy is the name of their electric power plant, which my grandfather helped design. Kathryne
Thank you to everyone that responded to my inquiry on the Chain of Rock Bridge. You have been very helpful. I may now be able to find the birth place of my Great grandmother. I can't find them in the 1880 census and that is why I thought he may have helped build the bridge then. I know he was in Lawrence Co., MO 1900. But he did leave for long periods of time. HE died 1919. So I wonder when the bridge was started. Thanks again. Kathy Pugh
The Big Muddy is the Missouri. Further, above it, the Mississippi is often clear. I think The rivers are mis-named. One stream begins at Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park, carries the erosional debris of the Rockies and flows to the Gulf near New Orleans. It has a nice, clear tributary that joins just above St. Louis. Tip for those who seach the Ancestor.com pedigree trees When you get a pedigree up on the screen but dont see the name you want right off. go down to the bottom of the screen where is says look up name and just type in the surname of the tree. You will get back the index of all of the people listed anywhere in that tree and can click right to those that seem most promising. Also you can copy the whole list off for later reference in case you missed some clue. just remember to go find the submitter and store that with your list. Off shoot families can be sorted out by the same method. Dont see your tieing in name just ask it to look up the surname of the spouse. even if you dont find the given name you may find a cousin marriage in the same location even on the same day!!! Neat stuff!
