I have been to the Pilot Grove in Daviess County (Daviess is in north MO)....the only thing that I remember about it is that there are a couple of Baptist Churches located there...I don't remember a store, post office, etc., but then, it's been 30 years since I've been there. Lanita

Here you go. Hope this helps. It takes you to a listing with links to places that include the words "Pilot Grove". Just follow the links and you will eventually get to a page with an actual map. My gggrandfather attended a veteran's reunion in 1885, and the record shows his post office at that time was "Pilot Grove". Can anyone tell me where that is or especially in what county is it? Thank you for any help on this! Laura
Candice: Not sure what the A.S.N. stands for The 8 digit # is probably his serial number Date January 11, 1943 is probably the day he entered active duty. This sounds like it was a commecial ID Braclet, they were quite popular during the war. However, if it were a military braclet it would have read 11 Jan 1943. The dogtags are sort of standard what you usually will see on them is T44 (The last time he had a Tetnus Shot), this wasn't always kept up to date. I think in 20 years I only had two differnt sets), whereas I got tetnus shots every time I turned around. His Serial Number Religious Preference "C" Catholic, "P" Protestant, "J" or "H" Jewish I am not sure which was used At one time the "A" Following a Serial Number indicated that the individual was "Regular Army" vice "Reserve". I am sure others will be able to be a bit more accurate. Bill What do these mean and how do I find out more information about when he joined etc.? Thank you very much-Candace ______________________________ Some Data on cemeteries and funeral homes <http://genealogyinstlouis.accessgenealogy.com/buchholz.htm> Surnames of Interest: BUCHHOLZ anywhere -BECKMANN-CASSIDY-DeL0NJAY-DREES-NENTWIG-NEUTZLER-PONCOT-RENSING-STAUDER- STIEFFERMANN
Laura, There are 12 different places in Missouri that have the name of Pilot Grove. If you go to the following address (URL) you will be able to look at each one: http://geonames.usgs.gov/gnisform.html After you access the USGS National Mapping Information form, type "Pilot Grove" in the block titled "Feature Name". Then type in click on the space titled "State or Territory". This will give you a drop-down menu with the states on it. Page down to Missouri and click on it. Then click on "Send Query" and you'll get back your answer. Good Luck, George Patterson Lincoln, CA Researching: Patterson, Green, Hitchcock, and Williams

GOODENOUGH Although not at as well known as the Moolah Shriners today, Alhambra Grotto is also a Masonic Affiliated Organization located in St. Louis. The volume I have contains bound copies of the The Alhambran the monthly newspaper of this fraternal organization for January 1929 through December 1929. The photos in these publications are from advertising or individuals running for political office in St. Louis or members of Alhambra. The Alhambra Grotto was originally located on Grand Avenue at Magnolia, just across Grand Blvd. from Tower Grove Park. The building was demolished in the 1960's and is now replaced by a Super Market. After the building was sold the organization relocated to a much smaller building on the corner of Gravois and Laughbourough (probably have that spelled wrong). This building is now under a contingent sale contract. Like many Fraternal Organizations the membership has dwindled where in the 1930-50 era there were some 5,000 members, today our membership is down to 95. I was the Monarch of Alhambra in 1997, our special charity like most of the Masonic Groups centers around children. We provide FREE "Dentistry For the Child With Special Needs". Although there are less than 100 of us in the St. Louis area, we have managed to obtain over $30,000 in Free Dental Care in the St. Louis Area every year for the last 6 years, not too bad for a bunch of old guys. We wear the Black Fez, Shriners wear the Red Fez. Have a few more volumes and will post the same sort of information at a future time.
