Needless to say, I have vision problems, I have found that reading messages written in caps, is much more difficult to read. My two cents worth! I do not want to hurt anyones feelings, I am pleased the way it was resolved, but I think it has gone on long enough. 1. [MO] Re caps a suggestion for seeing
    2. HI I have been on the Net since 96 so have heard it all. And I have cousins that write in all caps to see but the thing that I am writing about is for those who have trouble reading the smaller print on this list I have found some web. sites that I cannot read because they are so small. What I have done to read them is hit the file bottom and Save as on the site it will save it to where ever you want. Then open it in a word processor where you can change the type, just though I would send the suggestion along hoping it will help someone. Now on the all Caps. They are harder to read than the mixed case but putting something in Caps will make it stand out that is why we put Sur names in Caps. You can scan a E-mail and see the names without having to read the whole thing. Patti Moore Lininger Yelm,WA Almost all my and my Husbands family were in MO at some time. And I got blessed with Common names.

    1. [MO] simple map of all counties in state
    2. Where can I find a map that shows only, where each county is located in a state, for example Missouri or Illinois? In Oklahoma this kind of map is available through some television stations for tornado and storm warnings. I checked the following sites: GNIS http://geonames.usgs.gov/gnisform.html and www.mapquest.com but each site seemed set up for specific questions, not general county map for a state. Besides contacting TV stations in each state, is there another way to access such a simplistic map for each state? When you guys start mentioning counties by name, after abt 3 county names, my eyes "start to glaze over" because I haven't got a clue where that location is. If I could just find a map showing only county locations in each state, it would really help. My memory is not that great anymore. State road maps are "too busy" to make out the individual counties quickly. This request may sound foolish to many of you, but I really don't know where else to look. Would appreciate any advise. 3. I agree with your comments about spelling, grammar, etc. Incidentally, 'site' means place; 'sight' is the correct spelling. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Friday, April 06, 2001 4:56 PM Subject: Re: [MO] Caps for stressing In a message dated 04/05/2001 10:05:43 PM Central Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: << Yep thats true cept there are alot of people out there that have a hard time reading typing and type in caps so they can read what they wrote...when I get one in caps I assume they have seeing problems and type in caps back so its easier for them to read... >> Well ... here's my nickel's worth. I do see messages (or sentences) typed in all caps as shouting or yelling ... probably because I was fortunate enough to have a good AOL mentor who clued me in to tips like that. As for typing in all caps because of seeing difficulties, my mother is completely blind in one eye and is losing her site in the other eye ... and yet she manages to follow the standard netiquette protocol by increasing her font size and making it bold. She has this preference set up at her end, so that even if I send something with a font size of 10, she receives in her (larger) preset defaults. Whatever happened to standards for letter writing? That's really all e-mail is ... an electronic letter. Are we supposed to excuse people for bad spelling, grammatical errors and basic sentence and paragraph construction just because their message is on the internet? Personally, I want whatever I type in to an e-mail to be easy for the recipient(s) to read and, let's face it ... bad spelling, inappropriate text formatting, poor grammer, and illiterate sentence and paragraph construction do not make me want to read the message ... thank heaven for the good ol' delete key. ==== Missouri Mailing List ==== To unsubscribe from *digest* mode, send a message to [email protected] containing only the word "unsubscribe". ============================== Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the #1 Source for Family History Online. 1. [MO] HOLLINGSHAD to DAVIS thoughest brick wall
    2. Hi I am looking for the marriage or a census record for my great grandmother, Martha Jane "Mattie" HOLLINGSHAD (or other creative spellings). She came with her family to Ozark and Howell Counties in Mo in about 1867. She married somewhere in MO around 1879 - 1881. The man's name was supposed to have been Jim Davis. I was told he was a doctor. He left her when she was still pregnant with their child who was listed as being born in MO. The child's name was Minnie B. DAVIS. Jim Davis was listed as being born in AR. I have looked in the soundex for 1880 but because Minnie wasn't born until 1881 there is not listing for them. I did a person by person search in Howell, Ozark, and Douglas counties without success. I also looked with Martha Jane HOLLINGSHAD DAVIS' parents and she wasn't living with them. I can't imagine where else a woman with a new born baby would go in 1881 except maybe to work in another person's home. I am stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Karen Stone [email protected]

    3. I'm posting this to MO List since MO and KY have a lot of genealogy ties. Rootsweb.com has a "Kentucky: Slaves in Wills/Deeds Forum". We thank the folks who started this Forum. Someone has posted new info on Slaves in Wills, related to BERRYMAN. To read the message, go to: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Slaves/KyWill What's needed for MO and other places are websites specifically for descendants and others to post the names of people who were enslaved -- listed by name or surname, county and state, etc. -- where people may post these names and other clues we have on enslaved ancestors. Most of us who are descendants of enslaved families don't have early wills or deeds, but we do have names of some ancestors. We may not know what happened to them, but we know many of their names. KY Slaves in Wills/Deeds is a data-only board. Anyone may post info relating to enslaved persons listed or mentioned in Wills, Estate Papers, Deeds and other similar documents -- related to Kentucky. No queries are allowed on that website. 1. [MO] my brick WARREN family
    2. Laura Anderson
    3. I have found two people researching the surname WARREN on the MO website, but couldn't reach them directly. I hope someone will get this to them if they don't see it. I will try to be concise. I have John N. WARREN, son of John WARREN & Mary A. TRAINOR. John N. was born in Missouri (as specific as it gets) abt 1848. About 1877 he married Viola Rebekah "Olie" HANEY, probably in or near St. Louis. Olie was from a river family - her father was captain of a riverboat that would go from St. Louis as soon as the ice thawed in the spring all the way up to Dakota Territory (and into Montana). He would try to be back home by the time the river started to freeze. But I digress... John N. WARREN and Olie had a daughter, Julia Aimee WARREN born Mar 1878 in Missouri. Olie died in Nov 1879. Olie's brother had died a short time before she did, and her father reportedly died of a broken heart a few months after Olie died. You see, he was still on the river and didn't get to see her before she passed away. This is really quite a story. It goes on that John N. and Olie's mother, Sarah KOONSE HANEY (b. 1831, Ohio) took the baby Aimee, as she was called, to Loup City, Sherman County, Nebraska arriving in May of 1880. Sarah's sister Naomi KOONSE SIMPSON lived there. Since Sarah was a widow, this seemed a good idea to be near family. On 12 Oct 1886, John N. WARREN was married to Anna BETTS or BELTS. At some point after this, I think they returned to St. Louis and had at least one daughter. This WARREN daughter married a man named Richard JORDAN and lived in Maplewood, a suburb of St. Louis. I have an account of a dynamite explosion in their neighborhood around the beginning of Mar, 1916. In this, it says there was a baby and 4 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard JORDAN. I would like to know if anyone knows of this family. I am looking for the JORDAN family and their descendants. I also don't have John N. WARREN's death date or place yet. Thanks, Laura

    1. Re: [MO] toughest MO brickwall
    2. My toughest Missouri wall is my great grandmother, Ellen M. Wilson, born 27 Feb 1869 in Toronto Mills, MO (possibly in Camden County). The family bible states she is one half Chippewa and was adopted by John S. and Mary Wilson in approx 1973. She has one known step brother, Matthew who was in Baxter Springs, Kansas in the 1940's and 50's. The same Bible says her real last name is Mentez, Mantez, or Montez (the writing makes the second letter hard to discern). I've checked all the censuses in the right time frame in Missouri and have not come up with John and Mary with an Ellen.. John S was born 1 April 1844.. Mary was born 19 Dec 1853 and they were married 9 May 1869. Ellen married Charles L. Johnson 27 Aug 1889. He was born in Buffalo, Dallas County, MO 6 May 1865 and died 14 Feb 1959 in Kansas City, MO while living with his son Sylvan. Ellen died in 1932 in Stover, MO. They had the following children: Lela b 1891 unknown. She died without issue about 18 years of age William Lanceford b 4 April 1895 in Bagnell, Miller County, MO James, Sylvan, Bert and another unknown female child. Any information anyone might have on Ellen, her adopted parents or her real parents would be greatly appreciated or any helpful hints on what I can try next would be very welcome. Does anyone know how John, Jonathan and William are related? Which one fathered Richard, born in KY ca 1790? And what happened to Daniel P. and Mary L. Shepherd after the 1860 census in Crawford Co., MO! Their son, Robert Lafayette married Sarah Elizabeth Hendrickson (gr daughter of Richard above) probably in Jefferson Co ca 1869. Gottya!
