These are Goodman and Melinda (Holeman) Payne's children: Freeman (Alex) b 31 Mar 1855 MS Sarah "Sallie" Elizabeth b Aug 1859 MS Melissa Jane b 5 Nov 1852 MS Nancy Caroline b 13 Jan 1842 LA Amanda "Mandy" b 1837 MS Thomas b 1839 MS Joseph Jackson "Joe" b 14 Mar 1847 MS Jesse b 1858 MS Harriet b 1850 MS William W. b 1843 MS. I have an extensive family tree on all the above Payne's except: Thomas and Harriet. I just have their names and date of birth. We may connect but I have my doubts if you have brother of Thomas J. named James W. (Your Thomas J. Payne and my Thomas Payne's birth dates are very close Mine 1839 your 1840. Look at your census to see where Thomas J. Payne's parents are from. This may help some. There were a large number of different Payne's listed in Smith Co, Warren Co, TN as well as KY, VA, NC.
