I am new to this list and have two questions. First, I have seen somewhere that there were many Mississippi State Census taken during the 1800's. Is it possible to get a look-up for those and if it is not possible, where could I search them myself? Do I have to go to the MS State Archives? Also, if I need county records for Red Banks, MS during the mid 1800's where would I go to get those? Could I write to the county courthouse and request them or should I just send all requests to the State Archives? Also, is the State Archives online? I live in NC and am not as familiar as I should be with MS counties. Thanks! Gail Flowe Honeycutt Researching: FLOUGH / FLOW / FLOWE
Gail All the Mississippi State Census Records are on three rolls of Microfilm with counties listed in alphabetical order. Rolls are V-229-1, V229-2, and V229-3. You might have your nearest genealogical library order it on loan or you can order it from Hertiagequest for purchase or loan at: http://www.heritagequest.com/cgi-bin/nspage26.cpg?catalog=qsearch&file=quick data.htm&@where.state@eq=Mississippi&@where.series@eq=V229&@s=Mississippi%20 State%20and%20Territorial%20Census,%201792%20and%201866 Mike Worsham
Gail, I live right down the road from Red Banks, I would advise writing to the Hall of Records for Marshall County, MS. It might be they can help you. The town of Red Banks consists of a couple of feed stores, a steak house (great steaks), a catfish house, truck stop and a church. Its a neat little town. --- Gail Honeycutt <gailhon@earthlink.net> wrote: > I am new to this list and have two questions.
