    1. [MISSISSIPPI] Guardianship

    3. When my gggrandfather died in Pontotoc County, MS, in the early 1850's, several minor grandchildren were to receive proceeds from the sale of his property. Their father was already deceased as well. I found court papers where their mother was declared their guardian about the time of the settlement and several years after their father had died. She and her brother posted $500 bond. There was at least one annual report that she made to the court noting that she had received no monies or property from their estate. Why would a guardianship be required? I did not find such guardianship for the other set of minor grandchildren, children of a different deceased father. Do you think there was some issue that required the guardianship in one case? Ann Ann H. Downing Downing Consulting, Inc. (770) 394-0916
